Problem with car =[

Ok, so I went to drive it a few minutes ago and everything started up fine but I noticed when I turned the lights on my interior lights went dim and my stereo flickered, I thought wtf. So put the car in park and checked the connections on the battery terminal and all was good so I went to pull off and the transmission wouldnt shift, it was stuck in park. So I turned the car off and went to crank it back up but now it wont crank at all :/ Anybody have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance

Re: Problem with car =[

sounds like an alternator .. if i had to guess . get a meter and check battery voltage . jump it and check again . if its below 12.5 ( with the car running ) the alternator is not working . optimal is around 13.9

Re: Problem with car =[

...........or a dead cell in the battery and it wont keep a charge.

A stock Honda alternator should be putting out no less than 11.5 Volts at idle (500-800rpm) (SHOULD be 12-13 Volts at idle) and NOT exceeding 14.5 V at hi idle (above 1800 rpm) Over 14.5 means you have a bad voltage regulator - but that is SUPER rare in our cars because it is controlled by the ECU.

the BEST thing to do is to take the battery in to your parts store and have it load tested First. They will put it on a charger and try to charge. IF it is bad it will show in 30 minutes or less of trying to charge. If it takes and hold a charge they will do a "load Test" on it...
ie: they will see how well your battery performs when being tasked with a difficult hi current load.

IF the battery is good... take the alternator off and have the same auto parts store perform a load test on it.

i have recently been having a problem with my 92 prelude Si. on a outside temp start. 80 degrees or so. but after it idles and im still in park it has a jumpy feel to the motor. like the idle is really rough. and so i popped the hood and gave it a slight rev and it made a somewhat quiet rattling/grinding noise. but when the motor is fully warmed up it goes away for sure. I really hope it isnt my crank bearing. i would rather it be the power steering pump. ir my master cylinder since its not full with brake fluid. im scared.

Re: Problem with car =[

fixed that problem. now a new one. small one though. hopefully. when its cold and the car warms up the idle goes back up about 100 to 200 rpms then drops and goes back drops and goes back. but only when its cold. when its warm it stops. what could it be?

Re: Problem with car =[

would teflon tape around the oil sensor threading plus some gasket sealant keep the oil from coming out of it? and would any oil spill out of the oil sensor plug spot if i took it out?? on a cold engine?
