hondata p28

hey everyone, i am a newly dubbed prelude owner and was jipped. long story short i need a new engine and have been doing research that has led me to decide on getting a jdm h22a and a p28 ecu and tune it with hondata. i was just wondering if anyone knew of any books that taught ecu tuning. it doesnt even have to be for hondata specifically, i just want to better myself and learn everything i possibly can. thanks in advance

I don't have any resources about tuning ECUs, but I do have a question for you. Why a P28?

Re: hondata p28

a p28 is a 92-95 civic ex ecu. the differences are that the p28 does not utilize the knock sensor or iab's however there are ways to use the iab's if you or your tuner are competent enough. the p28 is more flexible and allows for more tuning than the stock p13 which isnt supported by hondata. check out

Re: hondata p28

The P28 doesn't have the flexibility of the P72, but it's much easier to get ahold of...if that's what you're getting at Phantom.

Bedevary... check out Redirection, then go to the local book store and get ahold of some books. Namely...

Building & Tuning High Performance Electronic Fuel Injection by Ben Strader

How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems by Jeff Hartman

and Engine Management: Advanced Tuning by Greg Banish.

That website and those books are basically a jumping off point. I have read everything on that site and all 3 of those books numerous times and I still learn new things every time.

There's also one other book that I've been meaning to get ahold of...it's called Dyno Tuning and Testing by Harold Bettes and Bill Hancock. From what I've heard it's more of a procedural "How-To" of how to conduct business on a dyno, but it's probably still worth the few bucks you'd spend on it. Also, for a book with more general information on Honda/Acura motors, you might try Honda/Acura Engine Performance by Mike Kojima. I own that one also and have read it numerous times. There's no mind blowing information in there, but it's still handy to have around.

In a nutshell, yeah. I wasn't going to just come out and be like, "F**KIN' N00B U NEED A P72 BRAH LOLOL". When I get into the ECU tuning side of the Prelude, I'm going with an OBD I P72 and either Crome, NepTune, or Hondata. I might pick up an AFC-Neo to do minor tweaking with until this ECU sh!t happens.

Re: hondata p28

the main reason im going with a p28 is the you pull it junk yard here is half off this weekend and they have that ecu so ill get it for $20 compared to several hundred for a p72 off eba soy ormething. that and i can still keep the iab's with the p28. im not too worried about the knock sensor cause im not doing anything dramatic till i get my forged internals. which by the by where would i go to get those?

Re: hondata p28

you can get a p05, p06, or some other OBDI ecus and convert them to vtec... this is often cheaper, but you get the same end result.

eCtune is the way to go tho!!!

supported ecus (prob the same for hondata)
* Non-Vtec ecu's:
o P06
o P09
o P27
o P29
o P54
o P75
o PR4
* Vtec ecu's:
o P08
o P28
o P30
o P61
o P70
o P72
o P91
o PR3

Anyone wanting several hundred for a P72 should be shot. Regardless, if you can get a P28 for super cheap, then go for it. Gotta do some modification to get the IABs working on a P28 however.

As far as forged internals, it depends on whether you want to keep the stock sleeves or go with aftermarket sleeves. On stock sleeves, your only real choices are Type-S pistons or Mahle Gold. On aftermarket sleeves, you can go with whatever you want.
