WUT 2 BY!

The engine is up and running, after a sitting for 2 years the car doesn't hesitate to start for a second, idles at a sweetly set 800 rpms (after warm up), and the vtec screams like no other.

Now I have a list of things to buy, for engine performance, and style`in.

I just wanted your guy's opinions on what to get first, and what to hold off. Here's my list.

* Carbon fiber hood (keeping it black, oem style) - $400
* Tri-y header, (hytech replica) - $400
* Apexi N1 cat exhaust - $400
* Fresh pain (and ding removable) - $500/$700
* AEM V2 intake (currently have an old peeling aem intake) - $300
* Shoes 16" / 17" - $700
* Sony speakers / subwoofer - $300
* Projection black cased headlights - $200
* Skunk 2 cam shafts & gears - $900

I have a $1900 dollar bonus coming this month. $900 of it is going to fix my grinding 2nd gear. Anything with the word 'transmission' in it is never cheap. -.-; So I'll have a 1000 dollar bump to work with, plus a 250 disposable weekly income.

Re: WUT 2 BY!

Oh and on a side note; when in doubt it's something stupid. Car didn't want to start when I got home. Turned the key, nothing. Only a relay click. Hit the starter, still nothing. Juice was getting to the starter.

Before going out to blow 110 dollars on a new starter, I was half way into taking it out to look at it closer when I noticed a loose bolt. The starter ground was loose. -.-; Tighten, hook up the battery, all fixed.

Damn bolts.

Re: WUT 2 BY!

Looks like you've done your research bro. The only two things I have to say are...shop around more for speakers/subs/amps. I've had Sony car audio equipment and I wasn't satisfied. Also... "black cased projector headlights..." You should just get an extra set of OEM ones and attempt a legit retrofit yourself, or pay someone with experience to do it. You will be much much happier. I might be wrong though, maybe I just had bad luck with Sony and they have really good car audio stuff. But I haven't really heard too much good stuff about the projector headlights for 4Gs.

Re: WUT 2 BY!

First, I want to thank you, for not being the guy that just " I has sum monieez, tell me wat spend on but!, don't get ahead of yourself.

Fresh paint and bodywork is going to cost more than 700. to do it proper, even for a respray you are lookin at just shy of 2k, unless you know someone or can do it yourself.

DONT, buy sony ANYTHING. Its a waste of money. if you want to up your sound system, buy some GOOD component speakers for the fronts, and thats it. If you want a sub, consider what kind of music you listen to. If you listen to rap/electronic with slow, whomping bass, or if you listen to real music, where you want the bass to be precise and on time with the music. If you don't need earth shattering bass, just something to fill nicely, I would recommend ( i love JL products, so its what I will recommend )
A good headunit, minimum 4v preouts.
JL c2650 component speakers ( i love run them now, the tweeters are so nice and mellow, not sharp at all when at loud volumes )
A 10 inch jl w1, or maybe even a w3.
A 300/4 JL audio amp, running the fronts for the speakers (at 75 watts a piece)
Then bridge the rear channel to use 150 watts on your 10 inch woofer.

Thats a decently cheap build, but it will sound great quality wise.

The black housing projectors that DEPO makes have horrible light output with HIDs unfortunately, I had a set and I switched to the halogen housing ones. Just something to think about.

Skunk2 cams and gears, there is alot more that goes into the price than just the product themselves. You need to tune your car to get the most out of it. That includes buyinga new, chippable ecu, and getting it tuned by a PROFESSIONAL. Also, if you go with more agressive cams, you will need to get higher compression pistons in order to truly see the gains from the cams.

I'm sorry if i burst your bubble, but you gotta pay to play :P

Re: WUT 2 BY!

I would start with the hytech header and APEXI exhaust. Looks can wait. I'd rather go faster =). I wouldn't bother with the AEM intake. I hear you get the best performance out of a stock intake w/ a k&n air filter. If anything I'd just sand down the pipe you have now and give it a nice new coat of paint and clean out the filter, or get a new one. Anyways, there's my .02. Good luck! Can't wait for my bonus... Come on October!!

Re: WUT 2 BY!

I keep seeing this **** everywhere. I want to see graphs that PROVE that a K&N drop in with a stock intake makes more power than the AEM V2. I'm not saying there's no way it couldn't, I just want someone to settle this **** lol.

From Blake himself http://bbmoto.net/wiki/index.php?Sho...akeDynoTesting

He doesn't actually dyno the K&N drop in but read the last paragraph

Re: WUT 2 BY!

Hmm, a lot to think about. The dyno's are surprising. As for my sound system, I had already bought a deck for $170 dollars, with 2.5v preouts. =( 6 channel. I'll stay away from sony's, good to know. And as for a sub, nothing really impressive, ya know. Just something to take away the bass from the speakers so they can play louder with less distortion. (I think I know what I'm talking about, prob not)

As for skunk 2, what am I looking at for piston work? I may save all this for when the engine blows, and I get a clean swap. I'm not putting COMPLETE faith in an engine that has sat for a couple years, and the previous owner obviously abused a little (2nd grinding at 90k miles is a small clue).

I've heard complaints on the headlights before actually. =/ I just wanted them to match the hood in a way. Any suggestions on what to go with for 4g? Or a DIY on turning oem to black housed?

And yea, a tune is something I forget to add, but had it in mind to do, after all the bolt on's. Another $500 at a professional race shop in in town. Car's are expensive hobby's. =x

Re: WUT 2 BY!

For headlights I would just stay away from projectors until you can afford a legit retrofit. Personally, when I get a little extra cash I want to get the black/amber corner 1 piece headlights that Depo makes. DJP has them and they look amazing. They're cheap too.

Damn IDK how I've never seen that lol. Good stuff though. Guess I'll be putting my AEM intake up for sale haha.

92-96 HONDA PRELUDE JDM BLACK AMBER HEADLIGHTS 93 94 95: eBay Motors (item 190433301466 end time Aug-26-10 18:36:10 PDT)

The first picture in that list of items is the ones I'm talking about. Numerous people have them and love them. I haven't heard a complaint about them yet. That's what I'm going to be getting eventually.

Re: WUT 2 BY!

The base is a 93 si, exact engine year is unknown (92-96 jdm h22a).

Sweet lights dbd, cheaper then what I was going to pay. ;) And saves on me getting a replacement corner light. I'll be getting a pair.

The FIRST thing getting fixed this week are my brakes. -.-; Doing about 50-60, and hitting the brakes hard at a yellow light (give me a week before I start blowing threw them) cause's my car to have a seizure. I had to pull the ebrake just to make sure I was really going to stop in time. I could feel it threw the brake pedal, like a bump in my tire/rotor bouncing at every rotation, was weird. My rotors are probably shot, so those and brake pads, along with an alignment and o2 sensor are all this week.
