drivers side headlights are dim

ok i just got this car so of course a few things my be wrong. first off its a 92 with a h22a4 swap in it. it runs fine except for the stuttering lol. but this is for headlights. one side is nice and bright the drivers side is really dim and when i cut them on bright it goes off. it looks like someone had hid on there and took off. the wires ore put on the bulbs with wire connectors. ny way i have tried grounds and stuff that didnt work any suggestions please????????????

Take a multimeter and see what kind of voltage you're getting at the bulb's socket.

Re: drivers side headlights are dim

blown fuse. the headlights are a looped closed circuit with a fuse for each side. when one fuse blows, that side becomes dim because its still getting some power from the other side. check your fuse. that's 99.99999999% of the time the problem when you see someone on the road with a dim light. either that or a bad bulb/sealed bulb.

wow, thanks!, i actually have to check that on my set, i didnt think a fuse would only make a headlight dim

Re: drivers side headlights are dim

the h1 and h4 bulbs are used on the jdm headlights, the usdm headlights used the 9005&9006.

the jdm headlights are one piece with 3 lines running through
usdm are two piece, usally one is glass and the corner piece is plastic
they also make a jdm replica that is one piece with no lines running through(this one uses the 9005/06 bulbs.
now if i understood your post correctly, you said that your car has the h1&h4 bulbs, which probably means you have the jdm one piece headlights
the h4 is the regular driving bulb and the h1 is your brights.

now, lets focus on the h4 bulb first, this bulb has three prongs, since your car is usdm, it came with the usdm headlights that used the 9006 or whatever bulb, that bulb only used two prongs, two prongs=two wires
so, go to autozone or pepboys or whatever auto store is around you and by 2 sets of h4/9003 harness plugs, go to your car, look at the original harness for your daily driving headlighs,(in your case its just the wires, no plug) find out which is you ground and which one is your power.
if you look at the new harness you just bought it has three wires, should be a green, black, and i think a red or blue. the black is your ground so connect the ground wire on the harness to the wires in the car, strip the two remaining wires on the harness and twist them together and connect them to the power wire in your car, place the bulb in the harness and turn the lights on to see if it worked, repeat the other side,

hope i made sense hahahah im super tired!!!! let me know if this works

Re: drivers side headlights are dim

The driver side is not "dim" lol on jdm models think where headlights for them are located. Their pass is our drvr and the beam shoots down lowwwww. Btw jdm headlights are hi lows the city lights. Usdm headlights are hi in one n low in the other

Re: drivers side headlights are dim

Yeah its great lol. I can't complain though. I traded a 93 del sol si samba green with d16z6 in it that was in rough shape. Itt needed a lot of body work and interior was only halfway done nothing really done at all on it. Traded it for my 92 with a fresh h22a4 from a 00 model full exhaust and rims and great body and interior straight up so I can live with fixing the little things I guess just frustrating
