What Can I Do To Make My Prelude Faster?

First off, im a NOOB.

Ok so I have a 1995 Honda Prelude VTEC. 133k original miles. has intake, 2.5 ehaust and a 2006 Eclipse v6 muffler. The car is slower then a 100% stock prelude I have no idea why, maybe outa tune.

What things would you guys suggest me getting or what Should i do to make it faster? Thanks

A decent header, some cams, cam gears, different spark plugs, intake manifold, maybe even a different muffler would do you some good.

Re: What Can I Do To Make My Prelude Faster?

well your car shouldnt be slower then a stock prelude..
you have an h22a1 with an intake and exhaust. check your fuel system, your ecu, your spark, your o2 sensor, and your catalytic converter

-replace your fuel filter with a new one (this is easy and like $10)...
-get new spark plugs and spark plug wires (this can attribute to poor performance and is also a relatively inexpensive and easy thing to do)
-check and make sure you are running the proper ecu for your car. my brother purchased a prelude vtec and it ran horrible but he found out he was running a p72 out of a gsr and there was a hack job on the harness. purchase a manual tranny p13 or get a p28/p06 chipped with a prelude basemap. you can set your vtec to a lower rpm if desired and change your fuel map around a bit and what not to help gain a little bit of power. some people are able to street tune for you for cheap just to give you the basics to drive around on. this of course is a temporary solution to you buying a s300 with a dyno tune after you start really modding the motor.
-get a new o2 sensor. poor performance can also be attributed to a old or grimmy o2 sensor. i swapped my o2 sensor and the car ran loads better. you might want to consider getting a wideband o2 which will allow tunning the car later on to be significantly easier and its only a little bit extra anyways.
-check and make sure your exhaust isnt clogged at all. my catalytic converter glass pack started to melt together due to 2 things of high octane booster that was dumped into my fuel tank by my dumb ass friend. the cat started to seal up and the car ran very slow and eventually wouldnt run at all. this is probably highly unlikely but still worth checking.
-change your oil and make sure you are filling up with high octane gas. (93 or 91 depending on where you live). with the h22 you are not supposed to run anything lower.
-run your tank down low and put in a injector cleaning solution and fill your tank back up. clogged injectors can attribute to poor performance. this is very cheap and easy.

most of what i have listed is normal maintanance and something you should have been doing when you first bought the car anyways. hopefully this will bring you to the performance that the motor should have as is.

if you are looking for additional power good places to start are just as spoonh23 stated above.

EXTREMELY good info, serjey15 my car is in the same boat right now, it lags and bogs everywhere because i have a bad o2 sensor and my egr valve is clogged (not sure how much the egr does to attribute to that), start off by doing everything that Campbell said above, then if you get yourself a chipped ecu from phearable.net you'll get rid of all the meaningless CEL codes and all that and hopefully get a better running car. Just my .02 cents.

Kill it with fire, it certainly has AIDS.

lol jk.

Just go through and see if there are any mechanical issues that need to be dealt with. How does it drive?

Re: What Can I Do To Make My Prelude Faster?

Like street_ride14 said whats your budget? Fix the mechanical and maintenance issues so that its running how its suppose to first.....then when you have a budget figured out and know what you ultimately want from your lude then you can decide if you want to go boost or NA

Re: What Can I Do To Make My Prelude Faster?

WEIGHT REDUCTION!!

1>Remove carpeting
2>Remove backseat
3>Remove passenger/girlfriend from shotgun seat

*If necessary remove the motor and tranny!!! Those 2 alone weigh A LOT!!!

Seriously though...do a few bolt ons I guess like intake, exhaust system n a few major/minor tune ups like plugs, cables, filters etc etc!!!
