My Lude wont start sometimes =(

Hi guys i'm kinda new to this forum but i see there are alot of lude experts here so i'm really looking for some help....

Problem: my car wont start sometimes... and sometimes it does... and sometimes the engine kinda dies when i'm driving... like theres no response to my accelerator etc.

Observations: when my car wont start.. my rev meter needle mysteriously rises to 4000. and my CEL goes on... and funny sound in my distrubutor...

wat i've tried: ordered a new main relay from honda and replaces it... i thought that was the problem after reading a thread on this forum regarding the main relay.. but in my case i dont think its that..

So now i really want to sort this problem out and i would like some help on wat else i can do.. thanks guys.. my car is in your hands...

Re: My Lude wont start sometimes =(

try replacing your cap,rotor.. my car was doing the no response to my accelerator too. i could be driving down the road and i could put it to the floor and nothing, i ran some injector cleaner through it about every couple of days and no more problems. try that and check back in

Re: My Lude wont start sometimes =(

check the ignition grounds on the bottom passenger side of the intake manifold . check for frayed ends and corosion . i had an issue just like this after a motor swap once and the bolt that secures those ground wasnt completely tight . the tach is what points me in the direction . check those grounds but also check all the grounds just to be sure and cover your bases

Re: My Lude wont start sometimes =(

if it dose happen to be in the dizzy its not gonna be cap and button could possibly one of the pick ups in there but usually when there bad there bad (not wont start then will ) the fact that the tach jumps up when your cranking and it wont start points me to an issue with a ground . let us know what you find . if your any good with a meter i can get you step by step diagnostic charts .

Re: My Lude wont start sometimes =(

ill see if i can get you a pic of the ones im talking about its easy to just trace them back from the dizzy and the coil should be 4 or 5 wires together grounded to the engine .

You getting good connection at your battery terminals?
Don't overlook something simple. Make sure your cables are tight and clean.

Re: My Lude wont start sometimes =(

Check the igniter. Pretty much I'm thinking anything dealing with the distributor....but usually with an irradic tach it's the igniter on these hondas. More common on the internal coil styles on the f22's but can be on an external coil as well. Shouldnt run but 40-65 bucks and 5 minutes of work.

Re: My Lude wont start sometimes =(

ok I hope this helps you cause I had the same EXACT problem youre having. What would happen with me is sometimes the car would start and sometimes not, and once it turned off while driving then turned back on, it was very weird. it would kinda turn off then on right away. Sometimes it wouldnt start the whole day then the next, it would start up fine. Sound familiar? Although I cant remember if it every rose to 4000rpm when it wouldnt start, it just wouldnt start at all.

Fix: The contacts in the combination switch (behind where you put your key in and the things that turns when you turn your key) was rusted so they didnt make a good connection. Just replace it. If you have an aftermarket alarm, youll have to do some splicing! I was able to solve it for a little while for sanding it down and using contact cleaner but eventually i had to just replace it and now its working fine.

Took me a while but I was able to find it again on hondaautomotiveparts.com
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...3ss001_b11.png
its number 13.

I hope that helped! You should take the part from right behind where you put your key in and take off the white cap and see if the contacts are clean. Then youll know if thats whats giving you the problem or not.
