Koyo Radiators??

Well it looks like i need a new radiator, the plastic top tank has started leaking and i think it still has the original core in it so thats probably about to go too. Anyway, i'm thinking of getting a Koyo R1979 cos its only gonna cost a little more than an OEM one here. I'm guessing thats the right one for a '93 JDM BB1 si-vtec MT? Does anyone have any experience installing these? Are there any clearance issues with the 53mm core? Will the stock fans bolt up to it or do i need to buy the slimline ones? Does it use the stock type cap? Is there even any point in getting the racing type one on a near-stock car when it only gets above 30 degrees Celsius about 4 days a year here? Is there anything else i should be thinking about? Are Koyo even any good? I've heard good things but they seem to be one of the cheapest aluminium radiators i can get my hands on.

Re: Koyo Radiators??

Koyo radiators are good, and I haven't heard of any clearence issues. Not sure about the fans or cap, somebody with more knowledge will chime in shortly.

how did they not use their heads? did they claim that it will fit with all stock equipment?
It's a dual core aluminum radiator, and is made this way for better dissipation of heat. (meaning it's more efficient.)
I'm running this rad on my car, relocated the fans to the front of the rad. works great.

No they did not claim it would work with stock equipment but the fan mounting point and drain plug are right against the cross member, design flaw? Probably. I wasnt saying that it doesnt work good because im sure it does work great, and im not trying to get in an argument here just throwing my point of view out there.

most products that aren't designed by honda for honda cars aren't going to be 100%. if there is a better product out there, feel free to tell us about it. It works great for me, you just have to find ways around the flaws.

Re: Koyo Radiators??

Cool, thanks for all the help. This is shaping up to be a little more complicated than i hoped, and expensive. I was hoping for a direct OE replacement, and i plan on keeping my A/C so i cant swap the fans to the other side. I can certainly source the hoses and cap locally, but by the time i shipped the radiator and fans from the other side of the planet then i'm probably looking at $1000+ AUD for the setup. If i'm gonna spend that much on it then i'd want some sort of performance gain, my coilovers only cost that much and they make me much happier
