questions on a possile prelude purchase.

I may be purshasing a 95 prelude si. I checked out the car it has about 190k miles on the body and the owner claims a lesser milage engine was swapped it(i always take this with a grain of salt). The car has some rust on the rear quarter panels, but it really isn't bad at all. The interior was clean. I looked for leaks and everything looked dry. I test drove the car everything felt really tight, he said that he had put energy suspension bushings all over. I beleive the only mods were koni yellow shocks and h and r springs. The only thing that has got me a bit eh about it is the fact when he started it, i saw some black smoke. He said the car has been sitting for like a month and he doesnt drive it. The smoke did stop, but I'm still wondering how big of an issue this is.

Re: questions on a possile prelude purchase.

Go back and start it again since it hasn't been that long (I'm guessing) and see if it smokes again, when I picked up mine it smoked a little on start up for the first time but that was because it had been sitting for nearly a year (yes I only have 80,000 miles on my lude :D but it's auto.. :( ).

I had this problem with my last car but it wasn't just because it was sitting, and all I had to do was replace valve stem seals which wasn't a big job at all since I had to do it for a class lesson one day anyway.

But then again I'm not a prelude expert, so somebody correct me if it's something else.

Re: questions on a possile prelude purchase.

black smoke = fuel
blue smoke = oil
white smoke = water/coolant

So it's probably just a little fuel enrichment from the car trying to start......nothing to worry about, the rust however sucks

I live in the NE, so when i see cars with just a little bit of rust im like oh boy lol. It's really not that bad. If i get the car I play to fix it with some fiberglass kid and bondo.
