Messing with my timing?

Ok so i recently got a new distributor because my car was bogging and hesitating severely. Well afterwards the car stopped doing it so violently but now it hesitates ever so slightly but goes right away when it does. People have told me i need to now adjust my timing and it'll go away. Well my question is, how do i go about doing so? In depth explanations would be great! and if what i was told is wrong and you kno of a solution let me know! thanks

The car is a 92 Si H23a1 5-speed

Re: Messing with my timing?

There's a rubber plug in the front of the engine block -- pull that out, and you'll be able to point a timing light at the flywheel and see the timing marks. You adjust the timing by loosening the distributor mounting bolts and rotating the dizzy to advance or retard the timing. The procedure's laid out in the shop (Helm) manual -- if you don't have one and you plan on alot of DIY work, it's worth ordering.
