Re: Turbo H23

H23 engines boost better than H22 engines. vtec is nice but not for boost. you can see easily over 500 with a h23. of course, not on a stock block...

Re: Turbo H23

I would advise you to boost what you have. While swapping in a H22 has a lot of baller status, it's not a cost effective mod as far as I'm concerned, especially when you're planning on boosting down the track anyway.

Re: Turbo H23

H23' can be boosted cheaper also due to the fact that the DSM turbo manifold bolts up to the H23 head with minor adjustments.

True, BUT, you really think you're gonna see 500whp out of a DSM setup?

Re: Turbo H23

I thought the sleeves of H23 pretty much disintegrate under boost?

Re: Turbo H23

The H23 and H22 both use FRM sleeves. And it's not the sleeves that get fubar'd, it's the ringlands ( I think).

Re: Turbo H23

haha, I got the best of both worlds .. H22 + H23 + Boost = WIN

But back on topic ..

1. FRM sleeves thats stock in all of H-series motors is actually stronger than Iron sleeves .. stock for stock. The downfall in a stock block turbo build is that the piston ringland is the weakest link, and those break mainly due to detonation.

2. You can't say H23 is better then H22 for boost because that is not true. When you take your car to the tuner and you're boosted the tuner will smooth out the VTEC engagement on the h22 motor so that you will not even feel VTEC when it kicks in. So essentially the torque curve will be as smooth as the H23 if the tuner knows what they are doing. BUT, an H22 motor will have more horsepower and when you add a turbocharger into the mix .. this equals more power than H23 at same boost level. There is no better in the end .. H23 and H22 are both good engines to turbocharge, just be careful with those ringlands.

Re: Turbo H23

To become a H23, H23 VTEC in a ... Did you change the transmission to one of h22? Or just swap the H23 head at the h22VTEC ... ? And if I really wanted to turn my non VTEC H23 in N / A, how many horsepower I got?
