front side marker light always on fix

so a little over a week ago I posted this message about my front side marker light..

06-18-2010, 02:53 PM
Side marker turn signal always on w/ no blinking

-------------
The front right side marker light in my 93' prelude SI is always on and doesn't blink, its as if the wire is a constant hot...
-------------

So I'm now happy to say that after a lot of rib bruising work and a crap load of troubleshooting I was finally able to find and fix the problem. I looked through the whole wire harness for a short or anything, took everything apart..cause I wanted to do it the right way. Tested the turn signal hazard relay from the service manual and eventually took the whole fuse box out on the inside of the car. Then I tested the integrated control unit (on the back of the fuse box)..still every test I was running came back fine (frustrating) so all the wires seem fine, the lights fine..it's gotta be either the turn sig relay itself or the integrated control unit chip..dealer wanted $144 for the relay and $288 for the ICU. at this point I wasn't even sure which one it really was so I called around and was lucky enough to find a junk yard that had 2 4g preludes and picked up the whole fuse box for $40 w/ both the relay and the ICU (coulda got it on ebay for 25 but was too impatiant at that point) put in the new relay and no fix, put in the new ICU and now I'm the proud new owner of a properly working properly fixed side maker light.. I was happy, maybe this post might help someone some day lol.

Re: front side marker light always on fix

thanks I mean I probably could have done it the easy way and tie it in to the other lights but I really didn't want to jerry rig it plus I learned quite a bit

I owe you one.

I've had this exact problem in mine since I bought the car. I even made a thread a long time ago asking about it but no one knew.
One side would stay on all the time and the other would never turn on. And when tested with a multimeter, both had voltage with the lights off.
After studying the wiring diagram from the manual I also suspected the ICU. But after seeing where it is and not having another one to replace it I just took the bulbs off and gave up.

But you sir just made my day. (more like night)

So all I need is a new ICU. How hard was it to replace it??

Anyway thanks a lot
And you've been +rep

Re: front side marker light always on fix

thanks guys glad I could help
I wouldn't say it was too hard..first off make sure you don't forget to plug in the red clip into your airbag (real easy: in the access panel on the bottom side of the steering wheel) cause you don't want that accidently going off when you're messing with the wires.

But for the main job the only real hard part is trying to take off and put back in the top bolt that holds the fuse box onto the body. Theres a connector thats kinda in the way of even seeing the bolt, on my car I took the one little bolt out to get it out of the way..on the car at the junk yard I just kinda bent the metal bracket holding it, out of the way (much easier). then you don't have to take the whole fuse box out you just have to turn it enough to have access to the ICU. that comes out and you can do the tests (in the service manual) with a volt/ohm reader..every test I did on it though came back fine so deductive reasoning said it must be the actual ICU. There are also tests you can do on the turn signal hazard relay w/out having to take the fuse box out cause there is a chance that it could be that. ebay has the whole fuse box for 25 including shipping and from what I seen it'll come with both (good deal) My advice for real though is to make sure you check out that monster of a service manual..
