Icon8 Radio does not work!! Fuses are fine!

So I had an aftermarket radio that stopped working all of a sudden one day but the red blinking light works. The red light that comes on when you take the face off. Just the other day I came across an oem radio at the junkyard. I slapped it and it doesn't work either. Fuses are fine! Checked them all. The weird thing is the lights on the radio work like around the knobs but the radio itself will not come on. Is this a sign of bad wires? Grrr really annoying. Any help is very appreciated....

Re: Radio does not work!! Fuses are fine!

Ok, so just to clarify, when you say Radio, you mean the headunit? ( The unit itself, like you put a cd in it, adjust volume, change song, etc. ) Just so we can use the same terminology and be on the same page here...

If its lights are on, its getting power. Pull it out though, check the connections on the back first, a wire to feed the other controls may not be making connection. When you say come on, what do you mean? Does power come on? Does a CD work? Again, its late, I might be misunderstanding your terminology. What headunit is it?

Any, and all info you can give will help solve the problem sooner.

Re: Radio does not work!! Fuses are fine!

there is an ICE section.. this may have been answered quicker... At least Shatter is on the ball.

Anyways, People don't realize there are TWO power wires and just one ground. IF one of the power wires is bad, fuse blown, etc, then you may only get JUST lights and a clock on the head unit/radio. You need to turn on your car, take a DMM and electronically check each wire as close to the head unit as possible. If there is no power on either the B+ or Keyed power, you should start chasing it back, stopping at every connector, splice, or change in the wire.
Since both head units are not working, the problem is a power issue in your car and I am willing to bet it is the red wire (the one that only gets power when the key is turned on.)

Re: Radio does not work!! Fuses are fine!

Sorry if I used bad terminology. The headunit itself does not work (eg. doesn't change stations, play cd's, and etc). But the red blinking security light on it works when hooked up. This radio was working a day or two then stopped. It's an old KOSS radio. It has a fuse box and I checked them. They are good.

I got a hold of an oem radio out of another 1992 lude and it also didn't work. But the lights around the knobs and buttons illuminate when you turn the head lights on.

LilMsPrelude, Thanks a lot for the help and information. I'm completely aware of the ICE section but I was just curious if this was a common problem with 4gen Preludes and more people probably look here. I apologize if its a nuance haha. I think you hit it on the head and that's why I asked. It's definitely getting some power but obviously one the wires isn't working. I will get a hold of a DMM and check. More than likely I will have to replace a wire and I have no idea how difficult that will be....

Thanks again!

Re: Radio does not work!! Fuses are fine!

Well, it may be common, as if i remember correctly, when our battery's are disconnected and reconnected, there is a security code that is supposed to be entered, Again, this may be only on 5th gens, I forget if it was for our fourths.

IF it does, and it turns out that is what it is, You will need to refer to your user manual, the code is in there.

Re: Radio does not work!! Fuses are fine!

Yes I will need a code. I need to take the radio to a dealer with a receipt because I bought the radio from a junkyard. But after reading a lot of threads it says the radio will say "CODE" where the station number usually is but it's not even doing that and I figured since my other radio isn't working it must be some type of wiring.

Re: Radio does not work!! Fuses are fine!

The exact same thing happened to my car this morning. I got in my car, attached my face plate and noticed nothing lit up. I opened the headunit to detached my face plate and it worked this time around. I attached the faceplate again, and still no power. I tried to opened the headunit again to detached the face plate, but now i cant even do that. Now the headunit is getting ZERO power.

The clock still works and I am not getting any power to the head unit, so I'm guessing that it is not the radio/clock fuse.

Could this also be a problem with the wiring as well?

Re: Radio does not work!! Fuses are fine!

A few days ago I checked the wires using a test light and my power wire or the battery wire tested fine and working. Also my ground is fine too. BUT my ACC or Ignition did not light up so I'm assuming I need to replace this wire or trace it and check it out. If anyone can help let me know!

Re: Radio does not work!! Fuses are fine!

not knowing the extremities of what you have/have not done to your system... you MAY want to D/L the repair manual (resource thread sticky) and go have a gander at pg 23-208 for the stock wiring schematic.

23-211 for the pin/wire assignments as follows:

A1 RED/GRN Right front speaker @
A2 BLU/GRN Left front speaker (E
A3 RED/BLK Lights-on signal
WHT/YEL Constant power {Tuning memoryl
A5 YEL/RED ACC
A6 YEL/WHT Radio swilched power
A7 BLU/YEL Left roar speaker
A8 RED/YEL Right rear speaker
A9 BRN/BLK Right front speaker
A10 GRY/BLK Left lront speaker
A 1 1 {Not used}
al2 (Not used)
A 1 3 (Not usedl
A14 BLK Ground (G4O1, G402, G4O4)
A 1 5 GRY/WHT Left rear speaker O
A 1 6 BRN/WHT Right rear speaker O

Should my ACC wire light up when tested? Thanks so much for your time and help.
