Re: ABS?

Why? Of all the things you could remove, would you pick the ABS?

And even if you did do away with it, which I'm not saying it would be a particularly great idea, its prolly gonna be abitch to remove and then you'll get a CEL and have to remove that, not to mention that on newer cars all the lines from the m/c run into the abs controller which contains your multi function valve which contains your metering valve and pressure differential valve and such, so you would have to get those parts and run new brake lines and such. Doesn't really seem worth it.

Re: ABS?

Why? ABS don't seem to be a big thing for you? IMO I'd rather remove the battery than the ABS - kidding aside, but do you see what I mean? But, it's your car and life so... good luck.
Hope you come to change your mind and pick something else for your weight reduction needs. Consequences...

Re: ABS?

Guys he didnt ask the question to get criticized. If u look at his car its completely gutted. He's asking how to get rid of abs. so please stop asking him why he wants to and everything. Its his car so let him do it if he wants to.

Anyways. Op I cant really help u out but hopefully by me sayin everything I said, u wont get so many ppl asking u why u wanna remove it. Lol

Edit: Looked it up for u bro. Here is a crappy write up somebody did for removing the unit itself. Idk if it will help u out any but here ya go

Well Im new to the site so I guess you haven't had a chance to see my car. The CEL left my car about 3 years ago. Along with everything else.

I had read somewhere were you removed somewhere around 30 lbs when removing all the ABS.

Are you saying that taking the abs off is going to kill me or dangerous. If that is so then how did people drive cars for years and years without anti lock brakes. There has to be some way through a prop valve or something to get ride of the unit.

Re: ABS?

Well you ARE right about the weight. The ABS controller alone prolly weighs a good 20 pounds, maybe they are lighter now. Back in the day they could weight up to about 40 pounds or more.

However, losing 15 pounds is an extra 1whp. To me its not really worth sacrificing the commodities a luxury sport car provides, like a dash and floorboards. But to each his own.

Re: ABS?

People stop criticizing.

His car is clearly a track car. Commodities and luxury are not a priority in a track car. Go and check out his thread in the new members area so you can see where he is going with his car.

And about the ABS maybe you 5th gen drivers wouldn't think about removing it because it works in your car, but mine has never work since I bought the car. To be honest I have never been in a 4th gen that didn't have the ABS light on. It seems to be a pretty common problem in the 4th gen.
If I could I'll remove it from mine since I'm carrying 20-30 lbs that do nothing. But from what I've read you need to have the engine out to remove it.

Here's another thread about removing it. It even have some pics.

ABS removal - Preludepower.com

Good luck and if you end up doing it take some pics and post them, maybe even do a write-up if you can.

Re: ABS?

well the car is a track car but i am crazy enough that it is also my daily driver. In Kentucky you can drive pretty well anything you want how ever you want. NO vehicle inspections and all that crap. I drove it to work like this for 3 days while prepping the bumpers and fender for paint.

Re: ABS?

Lol madd props for cruisin' like that (it's the same way in my part of Ohio, where you can pretty much do whatever and people don't tend to care). Anywho, I'm not too familiar with removing ABS on a prelude but I've been thinking about deleting it seeing as how it hasn't worked on mine since I bought the car, but I remember with my integra, you could simply get a 40/40 prop valve (not sure if its the same prop valve for preludes) from honda and then you only needed new front brake lines. I would assume it is very similar for preludes. You could grab a prop valve from a Prelude S that didnt come with abs, and then for sure I know you would have to get new front brake lines (you could either buy brake lines from a prelude S, the same model you got the prop valve from, or bend your own using SS braided lines and AN fittings) and you may need new rear brake lines, but the part about the rear brake lines I can't confirm because I haven't removed ABS... yet. Lol.

Here is just one of the links I have bookmarked for when I go to delete ABS:
How To: Brake Line Tuck Guidelines.. - Honda-Tech

You may want to google the words "Honda-tech" and "Brake Tuck" or "ABS Removal". Maybe even throw the words "Prelude" or "4th gen" in there too. You should get some good info from that. Hope that helps big man, if you find some good info, you should make a hella awesome DIY for deleting them specifically on a 4th gen once you go through with it. Cause I know I for one would love to see it just so I could clear up my firewall... Damn ABS unit is hideous..

Good Luck Big Guy, hope that helped.

Re: ABS?

My old 92 si i had always had the ABS light on ever since i bought the car. When I blew the h23 and swapted in a jdm h22 i removed the abs and a/c to free up alittle weight. luckily when i did the delete I had a buddy helping out while i was at work then I would come home after and dig in. My buddy deleted the ABS while I was at work I'll talk to him and see if he can direct you in the right direction of sourceing parts.

Re: ABS?

Ludechic, you need to pull the code and figure out what the problem is. If it's something like a wheel sensor, there is a very easy (i.e. FREE) fix you can do. If you'd like more help PM me.
