Solid motor mounts?

Solid motor mounts?
Has anyone had any experience with them on preludes?
We put solid mounts in our mustangs but didnt know if it would hurt or help a prelude?

Re: Solid motor mounts?

Depends on what you're after. Solid mounts will make the lower subframe stiffer, since they'll make the engine a more rigid part of the subframe. They'll help combat drivetrain windup and wheel hop for the same reason. The tradeoff is more vibration transmitted through the front end (and I-4s do shake a bit). If you're not racing it, it's not worth it. If you are, you'll have to look at what your rules allow, and decide how much you need those effects.

Naw my cousin and I do a lot of fabrication stuff, just piddling on our off days from work and we were going to mock some up to test. If they work good might even make a few sets to sale. We use a lot of chromoly and stainless steel. Im wanting all the power to go to the ground when I launch and have no inertia lose to rubber or polyurethane.

Re: Solid motor mounts?

Unless it's a dedicated race car -- in which case tearing down the engine regularly and welding up cracks in the subframe isn't a problem -- you want some flex. I4 engines vibrate more than V8s. It's just inherent in the setup. Solid rubber would probably be enough, and would flex much less than the stock setup.

Re: Solid motor mounts?

I agree with Jamie.

Obviously your Prelude is pretty much a dedicated track car but if you are racing it and have rules to go by make sure you follow them. Of course solid mounts are going to be best when it comes to racing the car but like Jamie said, unless you want to fix the subframe from time to time then just go with some strong polyurethane.

Do not forget that your suspension and tires are major keys to laying down good times as well.
