Engine stalled last night

I was driving my girlfriend home last night around 10 and about 3 blocks from her house the engine just cuts out but the electric stayed on. Pulled over and shut the car off. Tried starting it back up but it just cranked, no start. I let the car sit for a while to let everything cool down and checked the oil. Engine oil was basically out. Not sure why though cause i just filled it a week or two ago. So went to walmart and got some. Filled it. Tried to start it a few times. Still not starting. So i left it til this morning and got it towed. Before the truck came i tried starting it just to see and it wouldnt even crank now. But the electric still works fine. Got it towed to the garage around the corner from me.

Now i'll be honest, i dont really know much about cars. My dads a mechanic and i get what i know from him mostly. I'm thinking i got a crack somewhere and my engine seized. Which i really hope didnt happen cause im broke right now and can't afford getting a new engine really.

Anyone have any clue?

battery... boost your battery... the battery has not enough power to turn the gears of the starter but the electric components works... my focus svt did this to me too... its strange how it just stalled suddently though... maybe your alt is on its last days

Re: Engine stalled last night

Yeah i probably do need an alternator since it is a 93 with 163xxx but i dont think it would stall like that. So far everyone else ive talked to is thinking that its seized too. Actually i had a problem starting it about a week or so ago after i got gas. I went to start my car after i filled up and it started but then shut off after a second. Then it would just crank and not start. A few tries later and it started and ran fine. It was the first time it ever did that so i was thinking maybe i just let my fuel get too low, which i really did, and maybe it just needed me to crank it a few times to get the fuel running through it again

Re: Engine stalled last night

FUel pump..... has it ever been replaced that you know of?

Same thing happened to me... especially if I had been running it for a while. Turn it off to say, put gas in the car, and it wouldnt start for a while. I would do thing like smack the Master relay, and eventually replaced it, vent the fuel tank on those hot summer days, etc.

I replaced the fule pump, myself, and have not had an ounce of trouble like that since then.

just my opinion. things wear out...

Re: Engine stalled last night

I'm hoping its something simple like a pump. But if it is a motor then I guess its time to do that h22 swap. Well the car is sitting at the shop now so possibly today but most likely tomorrow ill know what's wrong. Keeps you guys posted

Re: Engine stalled last night

Likely causes:

Distributor/coil
Fuel pump/main relay
Timing belt

Re: Engine stalled last night

Also make sure you check the alternator and get your battery checked. Here's hoping it's something cheap to fix and hope you don't need a whole h22 swap. While it is nice depends on how much money you have to throw at it

Re: Engine stalled last night

Got my car back yesterday. Mechanic said the distributor went and I blew the starter from cranking it afterwards. Now I'm out 480

Re: Engine stalled last night

hi has your car died since the new distributor was put in? I had the same issue and put a brand new distributor and coil but my car still dies. Especially during the day, I am in california and it gets in the high 90's and low 100's. My mechanic says the distributor was getting to hot and killing the car. but it still dies and now dies at night when it the air is cooler.

Re: Engine stalled last night

Thats funny, MY wheels fell off while driving a couple days ago. hahaha

Cant believe they charged you 480 to check and change what they did. Thought your dad was a mechanic.

I will never take my car to a shop to get work done on it... People do stuff with such bad quality these days.

Re: Engine stalled last night

Just curious but do any of you having this issue have non working speedo? I know when mine wasn't working car would very randomly stall. I wld just mash clutch and let engine return to idle then hit gas again and was fine. I have also witnessed this on Integra when speedo was not working.

Just to save time, I had new walboro fuel pump and Honda dizzy when had that issue. I know I have diff car then most of you, but lude motor

Re: Engine stalled last night

cool. good to hear your car is running at least. I got my car out of the shop yesterday but they were closing when they"think" they figured out what the problem might be. They think the Crankshaft Position Sensor is going out. They will fix it later.

Yeah it was alot but i forgot to mention they add in the tow bill which i dont remember what i was but that makes the mechanic owed less and yeah my dad is a mechanic but he doesnt have the equipment to do alot at our house. He works at the airport right now as a truck mechanic, not at an actual shop. But the shop i go to is Carneys on 45 in oak valley. My family has known him for years and hes always been good to us
