Icon8 1994 h23 wont start after engine wash

recently washed my engine and it was turned off. after i washed it i turned it off with no problem . drove it home and let it sit for 1hr turned it back on and i noticed it was not running right. i pull 2 plugs and they had water in them i then let the war sit for 1 day and turned it on and it ran perfectly . i then let it sit for another hr and turned it on and it didn't want to run right again 2 pistons were not working right . im guessing because the plugs. i then took the distributor out and took it apart and cleaned and dried it out. i let the car sit for 4 days and put the parts back on . now the engine cranks over but wont even turn on. the alternator is good. the battery is new. the plugs were dried also with the distributor. the distributor and coil work because they do send a good spark. what could be wrong. why would it start before i took the distributor out, and now it wont even turn on. a mechanic came over and told me that there was a small hair line crack in the cap. he told me to replace the cap and rotor could this be the problem? thanks for any responses the fuel pump works because when i turned the engine and pull the spark plugs they were wet

Re: 1994 h23 wont start after engine wash

you need new plugs and wires. I'm 99% sure that you fried a couple plugs by bridging them with water and probably blew the wire at the same time with a sudden current surge.

NOTE FOR ANYONE ELSE CLEANING THEIR ENGINE BAY: As soon as you are done, you need to make sure you get all water out of the holes around your spark plugs. Just turn off your car, pull the wires off the plugs and use a blow nozzle on an air compressor to blow the water out. Then let it sit open for an hour or two if you want to be sure its all out of there. If water sits here and you continue to run your car, you WILL ruin your plugs/wires

Either you have the distributor on 180 degrees wrong or the wires are not in the proper places. I know on my current prelude the distributor only goes on one way but on my last one you were able to get the dizzy on both ways.

the 3rd cylinder plug wire is at the bottom or the distributer is wet and pull it of and dry the conectors, it will also cause missfires too.

Re: 1994 h23 wont start after engine wash

If you ever was the bay again do it with the car running but make sure to cover the air filter and distibuter witha plastic bag and just a light wash, than the rest by hand.. and try not to spray directly on the motor a little mist of water will do just fine you don't need to wash it like the outside.. but i always just use a towel and some water, maybe a little wd-40 on a clean cloth or old t-shirt.. But with your issue you prob fried something and just be thankfull you didn't hydrolock the motor..

Re: 1994 h23 wont start after engine wash

nope the timeing belt wont slip unless it's broken or missing teeth. just take an air gun if you have the chance or just let it all dry for acouple days before trying it, but deff change the wires and plugs and if you have an air chuck, try drying everything near the injectors and distributor and even in the throttle body/ intake manifold .. and also make sure the battery conections are dry and nice and tight. and double check the fuse box under the hood and make sure nothing blew, and you should be ok, if not than their's something bigger and it's going to need to be in the shop for a full break down.. and to be safe check the fuse box inside the car..

Re: 1994 h23 wont start after engine wash

well i fifured it out. it was the distributor. when i took it apart to fully dry it, i replaced the little part that connects to the motor 180 degrees the opposite way. which cause the firing order completely off and cuase it to not start. i noticed this when i put my engine in TDC for piston 1 and the rotor was pointing to plug #4 obviously meaning i had to turn it 180 degrees. thanks for all the help.

Re: 1994 h23 wont start after engine wash

the same exact thing happened to me last summer. what i had to do was be patient. but before that to try to get it started i sprayed some wd40 up into my intake. that helped me get it started i just had to clean it later though to be safe just keep trying to start it and dont go too far from home. and check all your electrical parts such as distributor ignition coil and alternator. these parts have to fully dry that why u have to be patient but if you have anymore questions pm me

and once u get it started just let it idle for a while then drive it like down the street. once everything dried out it worked perfect
