Running Very Rich

Recently, I have been running very rich on my 93 si. I am also burning about 2 qts of oil every 3 weeks. I have a small leak on my oil pan gasket. But, that doesn't explain my huge oil consumption or running rich. I've had a compression check, and everything is fine there. I have also replaced my pcv valve and vacuum lines. I put some fuel injection cleaner in and it doesn't help. Any ideas?

I'm hoping i won't have to do a complete rebuild because I don't have the money right now, but I may just be delaying the inevitable.

All H23's run rich. How rich are you running?

I'm experiencing the exact same problems.. only I lose a quart every 10 miles.

I'm not sure I know how to tell...all I know is that whenever I hit first gear, accelerate hard, or reach speeds over 100, all I see is a cloud of black and blue smoke.

That's burning oil, not fuel. If you're running rich you'll get a thick layer of carbon on the rear bumper. I get a thin coat between washes.

Black soot(carbon) on your bumper is either burning oil and/or running rich.
Trust me on that, i have the oil burning king of Prelude motors
Blue smoke puffin out is not good.
2qts every 3 weeks is not good either.
Check your spark plugs, that is a great indicator if your car is indeed running rich.

All in all, it really seems like you need a rebuild or another motor. y0.

it is blue smoke coming out of the exhaust, I know it is blue. BLack only comes out when I am going over 100. I checked the spark plugs and I am running rich.

NOw i am saving up for a rebuild. NOt sure if I should stay stock internals or not. Just depends on what I can get a hold of.

you are not gonna be able to get cheap but decent internals for the h23. the only thing you can do is h22 pistons and rods

that's what I was thinking, and being told, too. The only problem is I don't want to pay someone to take the head off so that they can send it to someone else, and then they will send it back and pay for them to put it back on. Does anyoen know where I can find a write-up or something where I can find out how to do it myself?

do a leakdown test.

rings or valve seals seem like winners.
