extreemly hot

so i just bought this car about a month ago, and ive been noticing that whenever i drive for about a half hour or more the engine gets really hot. the gauge dosent sense this. it gets so hot that it starts to heat up the cabin, even my radio. today i ejected a cd, and almost burned myself on the cd it was so hot. i have to constantly drive with my windows down. its a 93 with a h22a swap. anyonne else have a problem like this? im sick and tired of sweating whenever i drive somewhere

Re: extreemly hot

After driving for a while, feel your upper and lower coolant hoses going to/from the radiator and the block. Make sure they are both hot. Consider that the first step.

Re: extreemly hot

man if i was going to the OBX meet with you nick, i would leave you in the dust! haha your going to be stopping and going 40 the whole way to stay cool! =[

for the OP, are you sure the engine is overheating, and not just your AC not working or your heat being stuck on or something? the engine overheating is not going to warm up your interior that much.. in fact if it does i would get a fire extinguisher..

Re: extreemly hot

Is there a definitive benefit to running with no thermostat?

there's def NO benefit of running no t-stat. the engine will take forever and a day to warm up, and when the coolant isn't up to operating temp, 175-180, the ECU makes the engine run very rich.

halfway = normal. does it ever go higher than that?!
if both hoses are hot, you know the t-stat is working.
you mighta left the hvac controls to blow out hot air before you took them out, in which case it'll keep doing that until you change it (reinstall hvac)

Re: extreemly hot

nope, thermostat never goes higher. even when i had the hvac in and fan set to off it would blow hot air out through the foot vents.

Hey guys i also have a question on this..my h22a keeps overheating quick and i changed the thermostat out...and it stayed at mid level for about 20 mins then it went back up...so i checked the reserve on the radiator and it was empty after putting some water in it the night before...could this be a head gasket? it does have a t3/t4 turbo on it...im confused and need help
