Where to get these?

I have been looking for these tail lights for a while. I can not find them. Anyone know where I can obtain these or is it a mod that I have to do the stock lights?

Re: Where to get these?

I'm sure the is a thread detailing how to do it but the product you buy and spray on is called VHT - Nite Shades. Its a spray on tint

Re: Where to get these?

^ those guys are 100% correct. you have to do the tail light mod that si speed did. then you have to tint them w/ the VHT nightshades spray.

good luck with your tail lights

Re: Where to get these?

lol I guess I missed the tint on them, I just chalked it up to the shadow that was being cast on them. I've seen ones that just have the mod done, that in different lights, appear to have a deeper ruby color to them.

how do you use the VHT Nightshades? just spray it on the inside of the amber lens or what?

Re: Where to get these?

no, you have to follow the tail light mod to delete the amber lense inside.

the nightshades is just a a spray. it applies similar to spraypaint. you coat the outside of the lense with it. the more shades you apply, the darker it gets. the lights in the picture appear to have approximately 2-3 coats

Re: Where to get these?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they almost look like Altezza style tails (eBay) with the lens removed, and the OEM put on, then niteshaded.

they are altezza's with stock covers. i did the same thing. works better than spraying them. i had my altezza's sprayed with krylon stained glass red before. same look, but it faded after 6 months or so.

Re: Where to get these?

you could spray it on the inside but be aware that since this is a semi-clear spray on coating it will tend to fade over time. so once you put the lens back together and ~6-12 months down the road it starts to fade you might end up spraying another coat on the outside of the lens if you want to maintain the same look.

Yup. Just gotta make sure to lay the paint down nice and smooth. I recommend doing a bit of buffing with a really fine compound for a glass-smooth finish though.

NOOOOOOO! don't buff it too smooth. you want it to have a very slightly scuffed surface or else the paint won't adhere for very long. I've even sprayed a clear coat over the niteshade layer to smooth out the final product and give it a nice shine in some applications

no no no lol. I meant buff the finished product. Any self-respecting DIY'er knows better than to try and paint a perfectly smooth surface.

An UPDATE:
I recently bought the VHT Nightshades and used it on my taillights. It is definitely what you should use if you want to get the look in the first pic above^^^. I will post pics soon.
