Another thread/problem

Ok well I got my 96 lude for 2 weeks now and last sunday the temp gauge started to go up a bit. Now I didn't notice it right away cause I thought I was just paranoid but I ended up seeing it while getting a CEL reading. So while the car is over the half way point I decided to check for any leaks and if the fans were working. So turns out I can't see no leakage not even a small one from the radiator and both fans turn on but kinda turn off to quick for my liking. I drove the car home and was at a stop it went up and then started going down when i drove a bit. Some times it would go back up while driving but wouldn't last long. Do ya think it's the thermostat?

Re: Another thread/problem

Forgot to mention both hoses from the radiator were hot and the reservoir seemed to be at the same level it was before.

Re: Another thread/problem

how old is the radiator? is it all dented and stuffed with insects? it just sounds like its not getting enough airflow.. being as how it cools down when you drive it and heats up at idle.

Re: Another thread/problem

if both rad hoses are hot, than you know the t-stat is opening so that's good.

since the fans are working, you know they (and i'm pretty sure the fan control module as well) are good too.

you mentioned no leaks, but are you sure there's even enough coolant in the rad? (i'm not talkin about the overflow reservoir, i'm talkin the actual rad.) that could be a VERY easy fix to this problem.

and could you notice a pattern of when it would happen? only at idle? only while cruising? etc...

Re: Another thread/problem

@Kyleb1115: Well the actual radiator seems to be in good condition for me compared to a whole lot of others I've seen. Mine barely has any dents on it might be a bit dirty but that would be all.

@twokexlv6coupe: I've opened it after its cold(enough to touch the cap) and off there's coolant in there. The weird thing I noticed today was that I marked the level of the reservoir when it was cold/off and when I turned it on the reservoir level actually went up After the fans turn on the temp gauge will indicate that the car is overheating while at idle and then go down while being driven. The temp gauge rarely indicates overheating when driven unless I haven't noticed.

Re: Another thread/problem

You may have a faulty sensor for your guage. My car does the exact same thing. And I have been driving it like that for a month an a half at least. I've change the t stat for the fan control module etc. All i have left to try is my gauge sensor. Because your gauge does the exact same thing as mine from how your making it sound.

Re: Another thread/problem

i had that problem while back but have you tried loosing the bleeder bolt? maybe air bubbles are in there, might mess up the system. for me my temp seemed to go up while idling at a light on hot days and when i start driving, itll go down. but after bleeding it out, it fine now. but also i have a 5th gen, but im sure 4th would have a bleeder bolt somewhere as well.

Re: Another thread/problem

Yea it does have a bleeder bolt, atleast that's what the manual I got off the links here showed me. I wanna bleed my system but don't know where I will keep the old coolant unless I had it in NYC.

Re: Another thread/problem

well no for now, you dont have keep the coolant, you just let it bleed a lil at a time until it flows out in steady stream and no bubbles, and you close it. just put a rag around the bolt and wipe the excess.
