clutch or transmission problem?

ok i got a 93 prelude and when i shift to 3rd im gettin a slight grind more like a buzz but still goes in and doesnt slip at all..i tried holding the clutch pedal down for 2 seconds in between 2nd and 3rd and when i do that there is no grind what so ever..also first gear doesnt go in about 1 out of 10 times but goes in fine 2nd try...is it internal? or could it be that the clutch needs adjusting? or tranny fluid change?...thanks any input appreciated

Re: clutch or transmission problem?

usally grinding is due to a bad transmission.

Re: clutch or transmission problem?

How many miles on the tranny? Maybe it is going bad, but in my 92 Si i also get a grind into third and wen i let the rpm's down it doesnt grind at all, from what i know this is common in these honda transmissions.

syncros help the gears go in to place, if you read 1st post, he said "i tried holding the clutch pedal down for 2 seconds in between 2nd and 3rd and when i do that there is no grind what so ever.." that means he gave time for the gears to slow down and line up... aka no grind... most likely the person/s that owned it before you rode around with their hand on the shifter...

so for every one who doesnt know, take yo damn hand off the shaft when you aint playing with it....

thats my 2 cents....

90 percent of the time whenever a car comes into my shop with TRANSMISION realted problem its always the clutch that needs adjusted. so you can either take these people's advice and spend couple thousand dollars getting your transmision rebuild or replaced, or you could just take 15 mins and adjust your clutch and see what happened.
