Speedo problems.any help appriciated..

Hi all, ive recently brought a 1992, 2.0, manual non v-tec prelude.ive only owned the car for 2 weeks and value for money is excellent (there so cheap in england-its mad).but i have noticed that the speedo started to flicker at 40mph.when you start the engine it goes straight to 20mph and sticks there.then some times it will work fine.confused

any ideas on the the problem is & is it common?

Might be your speed sensor, its a cheap fix if that's the problem.

VSS man. Vehicle Speed Sensor. Basically under the intake on top of the transmission.

VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)!!! You can find them on Ebay or Amazon!!! They go about $15!!! If you're auto then it's an easy fix, but if manual then it's slightly a b*tch to do bc it's mounted in the corner by the motor on the tranny!!!

I think mine is messed up too, but I have a manual and I'm not experienced enough to swap it out
