Need ideas/assisstance

Heya, I got a 96 prelude S. I need to get my car inspected so I can ****ing drive it to nyc and work already but I got a CEL. Last time I went to check what it was I got a cylinder 4 misfire. Now I already changed all spark plugs, ignition wires, and distributor cap and rotor. I didn't have time to check today what code I got now but the CEL is still on Now the car used to start and have a rough idle but now it doesn't have it until it's in another gear that isn't park. I have done no tests since my dad won't let me drive it to school(LTI in NYC). When I get back on Saturday I'll do another code reading. So can I get some suggestions on what I should check or replace?

You need to check to see what code you have before we can suggest what to check or replace.

If you just jump the wires under the dash to pull your DTC one of us can look it up in the Helms for you. It's a lot more specific than using a scanner.

If its a P and you're misfiring I'd put money on EGR port plugs (IIRC the code is something like P1410 or something like that lol, but I'd check those as this can cause misfires, you'll need to pull the plugs and clean the ports out.). A simple search will bring up a few recent threads (including a DIY) to help you diagnose/ find the parts/ fix it.

But then again I make that assumption not knowing all of the facts so it could be something else. But it'd be worth your time to at least read up on it so you know the code and what you'll need to do if you do indeed confirm it.

Like they said get us the code and we'll be able to help.

Re: Need ideas/assisstance

Well if anyone reads this here's an update and I still got the problem. Today I did mad **** to see if this would go away for once. I changed the fuel injector that was in cylinder 4 into cylinder 2 to see if the injector itself is ****ed and after clearing the code the light came back on still indicating a misfire in cylinder 4(P0304). Decided to do a compression check on that cylinder and I got a bit above 140psi(I'm not sure it's normal or not). The fuel injector connections are good cause I used a stethoscope to see if there was clicking in the injectors, which there was.So I'm still lost I don't know what to do to figure this **** out. If anyone here is smart enough to gimme a lead I'm willing to hear it out. Just don't try and say anything in the emission zone unless it makes any sense...

Minimum is 135, maximum is 185. 140 should still be fine.

Check your wiring harness right by the ECU. If it's all hacked up that might be the problem. When I bought my car my VTEC didn't work because someone hacked the **** out of the wiring trying to install a VAFC. Could be the problem.

Re: Need ideas/assisstance

Pull up the carpet on the passenger floorboard. There will be a metal cover there held in by 5 or 6 10mm bolts. It's under there.

Re: Need ideas/assisstance

Wiring harness looked good man just that the metal **** might've been on top of it but I fixed that up. One of the connectors was a bit loose guess that was why my srs light was on lmfao. But ugh yea still got this bitch ass misfire. Drove it 30 miles before the CEL turned on after i removed it by disconnecting the battery. Just my luck...
