just get a chipped p28, or p72 with an emulator like the ostrich 2.0...., thats all you need as far as hardware goes..... unless you ever datalog, a datalogger will then be required..., but thats another thread....

with a chipped ecu like below.., and an emulator.., you can plug it in to any obd1 honda and it will run perfectly....., just load the appropriate map on the emulator first..

xenocron.com has ostrich 2.0 emulators for 175 bucks

this is mine...., it was a p06, I added vtec and iab hardware to make it a p72.. and my ostrich 2.0, which plugs in to ribbon cable, then plugs in where the chip would go

Re: What Ecu Will I need?

if it is a obd1 and a (p28 type ecu)... I can add the hardware to upgrade it to a p72 (p28 with iab's added) chip it, if not done already..... and burn a map of your choice on a chip.... so you would get a plug-n-play ready ecu thats ready to rock.....

100 bucks labor..... just get the ecu to me, or the money to buy the ecu... thats it

did you buy your ecu, and then go get dyno tuned.., or did you send them a dyno tuned map for them to put on a chip before they sent it to you...

do you have a different intake manifold without iab's... just curious

Re: What Ecu Will I need?

I believe h23's come with a p14...

I live in portland oregon.., lately I have seen many virgin p06, and p28 ecu's being sold for around 60 bucks..... keep an eye on portland craigslist.., and if you see one for cheap... pm, or email me if you want it.., I got paypal so you or whoever could just shoot me the money, and I will get it to you...., upgraded to p72, chipped, and loaded with a good map by me for 100 bucks..., for a total of $160.., give or take a few bucks because ecu prices vary... or I can just send it as is at no cost to you except shipping...

Re: What Ecu Will I need?

yea man.., it's perfect for everything.... it takes the place of a chip... and instead of taking out the chip and burning a new map on it... you leave the emulator hooked up all the time, and use your editing software to make real time changes to your map, and save them... you plug your car into your laptop like an ipod.., if you increased your idle on your laptop...., your car goes vrooooooom..., instantly... an absolute must for turbo's... check out xenocron.com...

Re: What Ecu Will I need?

so all i have to do is remove my chip and put this in place. i have a p28 chipped and i haven't been able to use it because i swapped in a jdm f22b so i'm using a p14 to run it witch is the h23 ecu and it runs like crap. the cheapest f22b ecu i have found is 250 so this would definitely be better if i can use it to tune my f22b if that's possible with a p28 no one seems to know if i can.

Re: What Ecu Will I need?

yea man thats it.... just plug it in..., no more burning chips..

set vtec where you want

does the f22b have IAB's.. if so you can add 10 bucks worth of hardware to upgrade it to a p72.., thats what I did for my h22.. only difference between p28 and p72, is the addition of IAB capability.....not counting the stock map of course...

and if you get one and need a starting point map..., I know the websites that has them to download... if you already got that handled, it's all gravy then

then after that, get a hulog datalogger for 40 bucks, or make one out of a nokia usb cable.. (cell phone cable) and have complete control of everything.. you know what I mean... datalogger is optional

emulator talk

Re: What Ecu Will I need?

What's the rpm rate that you can tune on this, i know the aem ems can tune every 10rpm and i think link for dsm's tunes every 900rpm's or something what can the ostrich do, does the data logger just plug in or does it have to be soldered into the ecm. I will def need a good place to get a map from i'm not very familiar with tuning yet but i would love to learn because i like doing everything on my car myself. what else would you recommend i get with it since i'm going to turbo my car soon.

ok man, you get the long version....lol

just to let everybody know,, it took 1 1/2 hrs. to put the following, into words

you are only limited by what the editing software is capable of changing.....

the emulator is no add on, the ecu thinks it is business as usual.., since the emulator mimics the hardware that the ecu is built with .., so when you make changes to your map, you're changing the original ecu firmware....

instead of adding a seperate, or "in-line" hardware device to pre-existing ecu,..., which allows you to change certain parameters of the fuel maps etc..., but it does this by telling the ecu that everything is running at stock perameters.... but in reality, your engine is running on modified settings from the device, while the device is lying to your ecu..., giving it false information...

compare ecu chipping and tuning to hacking or "modding" a cell phone.
-you need 3 things..., first you hack or (mod) the phone, so you can edit all parameters possible.
-then you need software specially made for the phone to apply these changes to firmware (example: nokia data suite)
and finally a connection to phone so the software can link to it...(example: phone usb cable)

same for ecu's....
instead of (mod), ecu's get (chipped)
for me (Crome Pro) is the software I use to edit firmware, or (maps)
and connection is through usb cable that plugs into my (Ostrich 2.0) while at the same time plugged into ecu by ribbon cable

datalogging.
is just a seperate connection to ecu, so you can record sensor readings(in real time, or while driving) and troubleshoot problems... its basically how auto repair people plug into cars and diagnose problems...

Look at where you circled red on pic.., now look to the left and see 5 empty spots on ecu for pins... to datalog, you soldier 4 posts here so you can plug the 4 wires from your ecu, into your datalogger, (which is only a USB converter) then from datalogger, into laptop.

using both datalogger and ostrich 2.0 at same time
here is my routine., (keep in mind emulator is always plugged in my ecu., I use it as my "chip"), first I plug datalogger into ecu via 4 pin plug., then run a usb from datalogger, to laptop... then I run a usb from emulator to laptop.... start car,... open crome pro.. the software recognizes both devices.., I hit read., it displays current map.., after warming up.., I can make changes to all sensors, vtec, etc.... in real time.. click a change, car reacts instantly..., then click to start datalogging.. it records everything from rpm, to ignition timing, map pressure, temp, air/fuel ratio... bla, bla, bla

while datalogging I have a choice to "auto-tune", where crome pro tunes your car to Lambda or (standard) settings.., or just record entire trip to go over later.. thats where knowing all that tuning sh*t comes in handy..

anyway it goes on, and on from there.., I'm sure you get the drift..

I hope I answered some questions..., If I went over anything that is already known..., no disrespect intended..

here is some screenshots of crome pro.. from me, not from random internet screen shots..

Re: What Ecu Will I need?

Thanks for all the info you really helped me out, one more question does it come with a tuning software or will i need to get it on my own. I heard crome has bugs so what is your opinion using it so far. would you recommend it for me or is there something better?

Re: What Ecu Will I need?

I've never had a problem with crome..... I bought the pro version after I used the free version.... you only need pro if you want datalogging capabilities included..

but you can use uberdata, a free datalogging program, that you can use with the free version of crome if you need to...

I offer chipping services, with custom map included on the chip.. you can pm me if interested..
