Future project car...

Whats up everyone. Im a new member here but ive been a prelude junky for about 5 years. I had a 93 si that was awesome but unfortunatly my rear main seal had gone out and i was bleeding oil like it was my job. I didnt have the money to fix it so i had to sell it. Now Im currently in the process of buying a 92' h22a that is in moderate condition. The only thing that scares me is the mileage...245K. The upside is all the high mileage maintenance has been done, not sure that I want to do an engine swap so quick but a possibility in the future. Basically want a little feed back on what to do first.

Re: Future project car...

Check the condition of the motor. Compression check, check for leaks(Leakdown test), Save for an h22

Re: Future project car...

condition of motor is good. It doesnt have any leaks and I have a high end garage that has checked it over and reviewed the receipts from the current owner. everything seems to be on the up and up but you never know

Re: Future project car...

Since you said "92" and "H22," it was a swap right? Just investigate it and make sure everything looks like it was done properly.

USDM 92' Preludes didn't come stock with an H22. So it's imported or a swap.

So you say it has an H22A but the Lude in the photo has a SOHC F22A. Make sure it has DOHC VTEC on the valve cover, cant miss it!

The body and paint still looks good on that Lude so that's a start. Depending on what has been replaced you will have only minor things to replace over time. Looks good but be sure you know what engine you are getting (depending on F22A version, its 130hp vs 200hp, big difference!)

Re: Future project car...

You guys are probably right. The last time the car was on the dyno it was right at 180hp so it more than likely is an F22. As far as work done its had: timing belt, water pump, radiator and hoses, master cylinder, cold air intake, rear main seal, front struts and springs, distributor, plugs, wires, HIDs, and battery plus i saw all receipts and get a copy of them.

Either some crazy high compression build or there really is/was an H22A under the hood. 180whp is more inline with a lightly modified (I/H/E and tune) H22A's wheel HP.

Need confirmation of what engine this Lude is currently running. If the photo's you posted above are current, I doubt the power output is more than 130wHP due to the engine being an F22A. If they aren't current there may have been an H22A transplant.

Lol just click edit in the bottom right of your post, when your logged in, to modify a post

As for a JDM SOHC Vtec f22, never heard of it!

As far as I know JDM lude's didn't have a SOHC option! Was only BB1, BB4, BA8 and BA9. BB1 and 4 had the H22A (BB1 has 4ws and BB4 doesn't). BA8 and the BA9 have the F22B (not F22B1 or F22B#) which is a DOHC with around 160hp. The BA9 I believe had 4ws as well. So there is as far as I know no JDM SOHC F22's, just the DOHC F22B. The one in the first post is definately a SOHC, so not a JDM F22B transplant.
