Key issues

Ok so i have 2 issues. The more important one is i can't open my trunk with my key. I stick the key in and it does not work at all. It won't even turn. Yet the key works for everything else on the car. to open my trunk I have to keep using the pull thingy. Any idea's? Problem 2 on the driver side when I put the key in and turn to lock it locks both doors when I turn it to unlock it only unlocks the driver door. Where as on the passenger side it unlocks and locks both doors any idea's?

I used to have an alarm but I temp disabled it cuz its a piece of **** and I want a better one that works lol. so for now its back to using the key which is why i want to fix these problems.

Thanks

Re: Key issues

1. the trunk lock is rusted or just broken. throw some wd40 in it and try to keep working it. if not then take it off and try.
2. that is how it is supposed to work if i remember correctly. that is how my moms accord works, so that is normal.

Re: Key issues

what do you mean by "it works for everything else"? there is a lock in the backseat for flipping down the seat. does it work there? what about the lock where the trunk release is inside the car?

yeah that is what i meant. it works for both of those things plus both doors and the ignition. just does not work on the trunk.

Re: Key issues

like i said, that means there is something wrong with the trunk lock mechanism. its common (at least where i live) for them to rust to the point where they don't work anymore. throw some wd40 in it, or something else (there is some stuff meant for it) and see. if not you may be able to take it out and free it that way. if not get a new one. youll need a different key though.

BTW, i have NEVER used that on mine. i ALLWAYS open it from inside the car to keep from scratching the paint! hah

Re: Key issues

I hope this is the appropriate time to ask!

I don't mean to thread jack, but I posted a question similar some time ago with no response.

I have a random key that came in my center console. This key will not work on anything in the car at all. No questions asked, it doesn't work at all. When I put it in the passenger door lock, it moves the locking mechanism just enough for the electric unlock to engage. I remember reading a DIY about fixing this, but I could never find it. So, in theory, any Honda key will unlock my passenger door through the electrical unlocking mechanism. Mind you it does not actually unlock the door mechanically. I unplugged the battery and tried, but it did not unlock.

Any thoughts? This is a serious concern for me.

Re: Key issues

To the OP: Newb response but make sure you use the plastic tip that actually lets the WD40 into the keyhole, no need to lube up lude's paint. Either that or lube up the key and have some sweet door shmexing (would take a lot of work but that's why it's shmexing).

To the threadjacker: Take your car to a locksmith and see how that goes. There may be a problem with the lock. Then again I had a car with missing keys...somehow we had a key that didn't turn any of the door/trunk locks but somehow started the car if the key was inserted facing the right way (though it got stuck once or twice until I jiggled the hell out of it). Also, try a friend's Honda key (but don't necessarily let them know if you don't trust them).
