Cooling fans

Alright, So my cooling fans never turn on. And i mean never. Not even the ac fan when I push the ac button. I've already checked the fuses. and the relay. Both are good. Now the weird part is when i Jump the relay the fan works fine as well as the ac fan. so right now i just have it jumped so the cooling fan turns on as soon as the car turns on. I was just wondering if anyone had any idea's as to why this would be happening. My friend printed me off the wiring diagram and he seem's to think it's either the fan control module or the accessory power when I turn on the car. Is this a common problem at all with 4th gen? What do you guys seem to think it could be?

Re: Cooling fans

kinda common. our cars are getting old, stuff is gonna start breaking. you can cross-reference the 4G part number and see if it matches any other car.

Re: Cooling fans

I don't know about the cross compatibility but it is an easy part to replace. Its next to the ecu under the passenger floor. Small black box with one plug. So if you have a friend with a prelude just swap it in and check to see if thats the problem or else its an expensive dealer part unless you find one at a junk yard

Re: Cooling fans

hmmm....... I am going to look at the box today and see what i can do. Might as well cuz i am probably going to fix my hvac controls. sometimes the lights don't turn on and i have to hit my dash board for it to light up and my ac and rear defrost buttons don't always work untill i push the button a million times lol. I am hoping the solder fix works well for me

where is the ECU located? is it at the side of the passenger floor? where the middle console where your radio is?

Re: Cooling fans

you just pull back the carpet when the passenger would put their feet. its under a big metal plate that has ~5 10mm nuts holding it down

Re: Cooling fans

well I changed the module. And so far no good. same issue. I managed to find a prelude sitting in the junkyard so I grabbed it. Only problem is the car had more milage then my car so maybe that module was bad as well. I am stumpped when it comes to this now lol. It is the black box right now the gray box that was right beside it?

Re: Cooling fans

k so i was trying to look into my fan issue and i seen these done from pics of a different prelude. what does doing this accomplish? Just look at the green wire going from the relay to the one of the fuses. (pics thanks to lilisprelude pics)

Re: Cooling fans

thats kind of cool. im somewhat interested because my fans work, but then NEVER stay on after i turn the key off when its hot. lolz. o well. im going to guess that fuse she closed will make the cooling fan stay on, but not the AC fan.....maybe?

this looks like it will only keep the radiator fan on as long as the car is running. so it wouldn't keep it on to continue cooling your motor after you turn off your car.

Re: Cooling fans

lolz. maybe. i just want mine to run on a timer. for like 2 mins after i turn the car off. that's all, im happy! haha.

and that would just make it take longer for the car to warm up. longer warm up = more waiting for vtec! lmao!!
