Nothing is hard, especially if it's your project car. If you have a daily driver AND a project car, It's easy to take your time and do it right. It's all mostly common sense stuff. If you pair that with all of the references available here at the PZ, life is a breeze. Impatience is your worst enemy. You have to be able to do things and know when to stop.

As for the motor? If you have $1400-$1700 for a h22 vtec, run it. Otherwise, I'd go f22b and boost it.

Welcome to PZ and good choice for the project car. ;]

Re: New to the family! Need some advice

yea im thankful i also have a daily driver (2003 Audi A4 1.8t). I bought this prelude for $250. When i go to start it it just sounds like something is spinning. the guy said the motor was seized. Does that sound right? i think im going to go for the H22 vtec because i can get the complete engine along with LSD tranny for 1300

Need more info. "Sounds like something spinning" doesn't help at all! lol --- Lots of things spin and make totally different noises doing it. Have you checked the oil dipstick? If it's empty, that would maybe at least solidify the "seized motor" statement.

First things to check for are air, fuel and spark. --- Maybe the flywheel is chewed up and the starter isn't engaging. I've heard that "spinning" noise all to frequently.

The only way to really seize a motor is to run it extremely low on oil or none at all, even lose the oil pump. I work at a quick lube and I've seen it a dozen times.

IIRC, you will most likely see metal shavings if that motor is seized.

Starter is what I was thinking. Does it sound more like a "whirr" than a "spin?" I know that sounds dumb, but that's what my starter sounded like when it went out.

Also, have you tried turning the motor over by hand?

when my starter went out, the only way i could start it was the pop the clutch, didnt make a sound dbd ;D but eh, i think f22 boost would be awesome :3 but eh, i dont think theres alot of h23 boosted threads here.

Well yeeah, that's how you start it when conventional methods don't work lol. But when mine went out it made a high pitched whirring noise.

To the OP...let us know if it's seized or not when you get a chance so we can argue about what you should do with it.

Re: New to the family! Need some advice

If ur lookin to do an N/A build I would def say go the H22 route. H22s arent really "designed" for forced induction due to the FRM Sleeves in the block. I would say start w/the normal stuff. Bolt on mods IE: Intake Header exhaust plugs and wires etc. From there go on to the bigger and better things like valve train. Port & polish, some cams, New valves springs and retainers etc. U can also do the trans (clutch?flywheel/LSD) for more torque. But def go w/h22 for N/A. And if ur ballin look into ITBs. Ive seen a CRX w/a type s H22 run a 12.16 1/4 mile with nothin but cams itbs and exhaust.

Check out TOYSPEEDRACING and shoot them an email w/some build questions. Really cool ppl there and they know their sh1t Good Luck and have fun

Re: New to the family! Need some advice

CRX have no weight. I think they are 1300lbs, so if h22 + crx = bad ass. it only took two guys to pick up the hatch off the ground of my friends b20 crx.

You forgot to add "and spend buttloads of money." If you're looking to make somewhat decent power (230+ whp), you might as well go FI, as it will be cheaper. N/A builds are not cheap with our cars. Just a little FYI for the OP.

Timing Belt! Pop that valve cover off and check it! And in the mean time, just in case it IS the timing belt, DON'T TRY STARTING IT.

That's about what mine sounded like last month.

Doesn't sound exactly like mine did, check the timing belt first like Lindso said, then try the starter.
