Head Swap, F22a1 w/h23

I am looking to do a head swap. This f22a1 is driving me nuts. A geo metro is faster than my flippin prelude...

Anyway. I was looking to swap an h23 head, onto my F22A1 block. I can chip the ecu, no biggy. I do it frequently, I haven't chipped my own.. because imo its pointless with a f22a1.

I can not find a clear answer on this. Apparantly, an f22b2 and an h22 head fits together like a lego... However, I don't see why a F22A1 block and H23 head wouldn't work as well. I have done swapped the engine in my prelude, and I don't really want to do that any time soon again, unless its an h22... And personally, I don't think I am financially fit to spend $800+ on just an engine.

So why not cheat, and try a head swap?

Does anyone know, down to bare facts, what exactly needs to be done for one to put an H23 head, on an F22A1 block...?

I have sourced the h23 head for dirt.. finding parts where I am is cheeapp.. However, pointless if you can't put it together.

Anyway, I was also considering getting ahold of this 80k mile F22B2 engine, and plopping it into my prelude with an h23 tranny, then down the line get an h22 head for it.... But i'd like to see what I could do with an h23 head and f22 block... (I like F blocks better, iron sleeved :D)..

If anyone would like to provide me some information, that would be great. I have searched this many times, and I still can not seem to find a CLEAR answer.

Thanks.

Re: Head Swap, F22a1 w/h23

That is the frustrating thing. They are ALL about the vtec.

I don't have vtec, nor would I.. (obviously)..

It seems nobody has bothered to provide a bit of info for F22A1 block + H23 head, because they are fn' with vtec blocks and such, I think.

I read somewhere they plop on like lego's, however... I don't know if it was just some dude talkin out of his ass or not.

Re: Head Swap, F22a1 w/h23

Yeah its fine the frustrating thing...aha..

Do you know the gains I would get?

I am having a look at this thread here:

http://www.preludepower.com/forums/s...d.php?t=300705

and this

http://www.preludepower.com/forums/s...d.php?t=293305

Seem to have found a bunch of info here.

However, has anyone here done this?

Re: Head Swap, F22a1 w/h23

I'm in the process of doing this myself, and I have done research and all that seems to be needed (besides the h23 head and IM) is a f23 head gasket and h23 timing belt. There is some debate about which lower timing gear to use, but heard you can leave the f22 alone. Also the h23 (P14) ecu will work without tune, if you have one laying around. Hope this helped.

Re: Head Swap, F22a1 w/h23

ok its official to do this swap you need the following
h23 head with f23 head gasket
f22a1 block or f22b block
use the h23 timing belt for this swap
and u have to use a h23 lower timing gear (i dunno why)
and use the f22 water pump and water pump hardline/hose it bolts directly to h23 head.
use stock f22a1 prelude ecu i think its a p14
and u have to honda bond a part of the headgasket not sure wich part any body know?
other than what i said in the list its a direct swap!!!! good luck everyone i will post pics as soon as possible hope u do too!

OMG! so many things are wrong with what you said. lol ok to anyone doing this build look in my sig and click on WATCH MY BUILD! no you cant use the lower timing gear from the f22. you dont honda bond the gasket you bond the block. and you HAVE to use the ecu from the h23. well you dont have to but most of the sensors are on the head so you would want to use that one. i can tell you exactly what you need and what to do. just please search. so i would love to healp anyone doing this build

Re: Head Swap, F22a1 w/h23

You need the H23 lower timing gear, F23 head gasket, and H23 timing belt (all of which I've got for sale, but that's a matter for PM). Anyway, the swap alone won't make your car much faster. You're greatly limited by your transmission. An extra 20 hp isn't going to fix that

but for this build the f22 tranny would work great. because the main reason for this build is to eventually boost it. and for boost a tranny will taller gear ratios means you would stay in boost longer. but if you are not going to turbo it then choose any tranny lol

Re: Head Swap, F22a1 w/h23

I would LOVE to boost, HOWEVER.. I do not see me doing that anytime soon, however I would have the advantage of being able to boost "on the fly" (Meaning, could essentially bolt up the parts and such, without having to do serious work, as it would already be "done")

I had a chance at a full turbo kit for $250 from a friend(it was a mutual deal).. However, I needed brakes instead :(

Camshafted,

How much of a HP/Speed/torque gain and such did you get? What would the benifit be with

F22A1 block with h23 head with..
h23 tranny.. and f22 tranny.. and h22 tranny?

I would like to know if I might as well get a f22b2 block w/h22 head.. (However, I don't really want to yank my engine, but if I find a tranny and a head, I'll probably yank the engine anyway.. to do the clutch and make **** easier...?)

Thanks man.

Re: Head Swap, F22a1 w/h23

h23 tranny will give you good gear ratios for boosting and for running N/A. The H22 will be good if you just plan on staying N/A because the ratios are so short. The F22 tranny would be great for boosting but not so much for running N/A because the gears are long.

I havnt got the motor in yet so I cant tell you what the difference felt like between my h23 and this motor. But I would imagine it will be slightly comparable to the H23 but a little less HP but a little more torque. THis swap lowers the compression ratio making it great for boost. Like ive said many a times this build is great for boost. if you are looking for an N/A application Iw ould suggest and H23 vtec build.

P.S. I have an H23 tranny I will sell.

Re: Head Swap, F22a1 w/h23

I almost baught my friends wrecked lude. He is buying it now. Everything is workin out great. I should be doing this here soon. I'll be using an h23 tranny.. And probably goin with a stage 2 or stage 3 clutch.. and goin from there.. But I may just say screw it, cause i'm getting an h23 that needs rebuilt. I MAY rebuild that. Depends if I would actually lose HP using a f22a1 block, vs h23 block w/h23 head.

Re: Head Swap, F22a1 w/h23

Why not fully build my engine and turbo it to run high boost?

Well, thing is, finding ****, and price. I don't come accross many h22 heads/blocks. H23 stuff is rare round here, h22 stuff is more rare.
