Re: H22A Build

I will mention that searching will be your friend, this is well covered.
If you want a reliable setup, and are going to replace the cams and retainers, you may just as well get valves and springs to match. Rebuild the whole head with the same brand (Skunk2) and you will have some piece of mind that it can take the punch and is new. Pistons are a little more difficult due to our friend FRM (fiber reinforced metal) liners so you will be very limited in that regard. Need to get new sleeves if you want change the pistons (think only mahle gold (see link) and type S can be transplanted into FRM).

As for clutch and header, there are heaps; your budget, availability and power goals determine which ones you get. Once again just have a seach, there will be heaps of threads on these.

What are your plans with the engine? N/A, Turbo, SC??? That will help to decide what internals you would want.
Also what kind of Skunk2 Cams are in head you are considering purchasing (pro or tuner series)? Was the head already ported and was any other work done to it (like milling)? How much is he asking for it?
If you DO decide the head is what you want for YOUR engine and it already has the new valve springs, cams, cam gears, retainers you might as well get new valves, seals, and guides to finish the job (not to mention pnp).
If you want higher comp pistons because you are staying N/A I'll recommend the H22 type-s pistons. Some people will recommend Mahle pistons to avoid sleeving. If you want another brand of forged piston you have to sleeve and your are looking at another grand for just that. Also whats the point of getting a sleeved block and forged pistons without forged connecting rods and ARP bolts. Just the stuff I mentioned might cost you upwards of a few thousand dollars. How serious are you? Do you have HP goals?
As far as clutch goes you kind of have to know your hp/tq before buying a clutch because it should be proportionately sized to your power output. I do recommend Exedy stage 1 clutch for small modded h22 from personal experience with them.
As far as a HEADER (not headers) goes IMO get a tri-y replica (or better) to actually see gains AND get a full 2.5"+ exhaust or you are wasting your money.

Obviously I'm feeling nice today, so I am going to give you some advice. If you dont plan on selling the car anytime soon please take your time. Research, research, research and then research some more. Carefully choose what you want piece by piece so you dont buy something you dont need. The H22 engine is pretty finely refined. You cant just slap on I/H/E and see a 50whp gain it really takes a lot of research and $$$$ to get serious gains from these engines. My suggestion to you is to goto the members ride section and see what other people did and what they gained. Take their mod list and see what it cost them to put down the power they are making and see if it is something you are willing to do.

Good luck.

Re: H22A Build

well money is not an issue as i go i keep spending but i got the common setup right now. i have suspension, dc header (didn't know if there is anything better), fidanza flywheel, injen intake, exhaust.. he said theres skunk 2 spring, retainers, and stage one cams for inside and He is asking 500. why i took interest is because i was looking to do the internals skunk and i did the research on the pistons and i know type s is the only way to go without sleeving.. for right now I'm looking to get this done for the summer and then start working my way to finishing it off with the turbo so i want to build to withstand a good 20 to 25 pounds. thats what i run in my other cars just never got into hondas but it seems fun.
