Re: Cylinder 3 not firing

NOT firing or MISfiring?

1. NOT as in no spark
2. MISfiring as in a spark but at the wrong time, making the cyl useless =]

check distributor cap, rotor, plugs, wires, injectors, and if there is a CEL, run that.. many times you will get a misfire CEL.

i have had soe misfires in the past, they were due to:

BAD injector
BAD plug wire
BAD cop (COIL ON PLUG for another vehicle) its basically the wires, and distributor in one..

so check them all! =]

dont screw up the wires, as the firing order is important, but you can switch some around to see if it starts working. it might take some trial and error.

Re: Cylinder 3 not firing

Sorry for being vague in my initial post guys.. Here is what I have checked so far..

Brand new distributor cap, so that is not the problem. The spark plug wires are relatively new, and the spark plugs themselves are all working and getting spark, so that is not the issue either.

I ran a compression test and got around 170 on cylinders 1, 2 and 4... However cylinder 3 was getting maybe 10 PSI, if that.... I'm pretty sure that it's something pretty serious....

Any ideas??

If you can, do a leak down test. That should point you in the direction of the problem. However, there's a 95% chance that head's gotta come off to fix it

Re: Cylinder 3 not firing

Leak down test? As in putting oil in the bad cylinder and seeing if the results change on the compression test? I forget what else I should know here....?

If the head is coming off, it's obvioulsly a big expensive job...... Which is unfortunate because I just spent $1200 on a rebuild...(Which I feel I got screwed terribly!!!) No money for a new motor or car, this is just great!

With my luck I will be riding on 3 cylinders for a year......
