Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

I recently bought a 92 Prelude SI that was kept in great shape with no modifications at all. Now that i have some more money saved up I would like to see what I can get done to the car that would be the best bang for my buck to receive more power. None of my friends really know much so I decided to join this site with my fellow Prelude fans. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Re: Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

if you are set on engine mods, id get a nice CAI and a Catback exhaust and a header. power gains will be minimal, but 600 is not enough for any serious power gains.... not on a stock engine anyway...

$600 won't do squat. keep saving.

best bang for your buck is always, ALWAYS going to be nitrous.

Re: Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

this is true, but hell still need an exhaust if hes stock, so he might as well get one! im all for spending my money on things ill want to keep for awhile..

suspension is a good way to go! 600 is right around the price for a decent setup.

Re: Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

You could use physics! Buy a ****load of rocks and have your friend sit on your roof. Instruct him to throw the rocks towards the rear of your car and watch the speedo fly!

In all seriousness, just do CAI, header, exhaust. You don't really have the money to go all fast and furious.

Re: Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

if your dead set on engine mods than by far, new exhaust system with either new headers or just heat wrap the ones you have. with a nice intake of some sort. (cai or sri, im a skeptic on CAI because of water getting to it)

Personally i would do suspension first because it gives the car a more agressive look and will make it handle amazingly (even better than stock, yes it is possible) and its something 90% of people will notice and appreciate

They make hydro shields for CAI's. Heat wrapping headers is a no-no.

Ya I would def say exhaust/suspension work if ur dead set on spending. If not save ur money for a long term goal.

Re: Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

Those covers work fine unless you completely submerge your filter in water. Heat wrapping can cause cracking. All heat wrapping does is contain the heat. Which heats the header to extreme temperatures. That's not good.

Re: Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

Stock H23 exhaust manifold is crap anyway. Get an eBay header, and invest the rest in suspension

An Ebay header wouldn't help at all.

Re: Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

Drop in K&N for the stock air box
High flow cat or a resonated test pipe
Cat back exhaust between 2.5" and 3" piping
Light weight crank pulley (best bang for your buck on a stock engine IMO)
Remove PS *free*
Remove A/C (if you never use it) *free*

If I had $600 to blow on a totally stock Prelude though...

$630 shipped Funtion & Form Type 1 coilovers

Great reputation and a great product.

Re: Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

remove CC - cleans up some space
get a CAI and remove the airbox

now you just freed up room on both sides of your engine bay!

a set of headers will clean up the front, and an exhaust..

thats what i would do "engine" wise with 600.

Re: Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

well, u could do the intake, test pipe, exhaust and header
or keep saving a do a h22 obd 1 swap. alot of people have done it and like the end result. but if wanna do different, i would rebuild ur motor wid new internals and then boost but if its ur daily, then N/A would be a better option.

trust me we all started wid a budget but jus throw that **** out the window lol
cuz once u start modd'in ur not gonna want to stop lol.

you got that right haha

dude, im gonna say go with suspension first. it is gonna give your car a more aggressive look. you could drop $600 in suspension, THEN start engine mods. just my $.02. I/H/E, cam gears, even sparks plugs are a good way to earn a few ponies.

just my opinion.

Re: Upgrades for 92 Prelude SI?

Spoonh23, I agree with 100% that's why I suggested what I did.

A lot of extra power doesn't mean anything if it doesn't get put to the ground right.
Suspension and tires are the most important thing and best thing to start with IMO.
