About to buy a lude. Tranny grind.

I'm looking at this 94 lude. It's in fairly good shape. Exterior is eh, ok. The interior is 9/10. Its got 170k on it. H23a.

The guy wanted $2500. I talked him down to $1800, cause it has a flat, no radio, exhaust leak, and some ghetto spray paint job on the quoter panel.

Now the really bad part. When I test drove it, it seems good, but when I shifted from 2nd into 3rd, it would grind just a little. Nothing too too bad.

I did a little search here and found someone saying "2nd to 3rd grinding is sorta normal for a tranny off a H23a1(for being 15-11 yrs old). Worn syncros. Honda's tranny are known for grinding. Happends alot B series trannys and K."

Is it a good buy if I get this guy to give it up for 1200-1500?
And if anyone has that "unlimited" subscription to carfax, can u check the vin? JHMBB2158RC006860

Heres some pics:

Tell me what you thing. Any input would be helpful.

Daily. Gunna keep it stock. At least for now.

It that grind normal? I need to drive it for at least a month or two to save some money to fix it.

I'm not really worried about the ABS light. Not a big deal until the snow. Just felt like I should add to the bad list.

Re: About to buy a lude. Tranny grind.

i would say that that might still be a lil high, but thats book value. Preludes these days are selling for more than they are actually worth. I wouldnt pay more than 1200 for it. But thats me.

I have a spare H23 tranny laying around of you want it. Ill let it go for cheap.

Re: About to buy a lude. Tranny grind.

Wow, I didn't know the transmissions were notorious for grinding. I have a 95 Si and it shifts as smooth as a 2010. The kid who owned it before me probably ran the balls out of it too. That's weird. My 5-speed is really smooth.

Re: About to buy a lude. Tranny grind.

Decided not to get this one. Still for sale if anyone is in the market.

1994 HONDA PRELUDE

I got him down to $1500 from $2600 so don't pay a penny more.

It has either a bad wheel bearing or seized rear caliper. (makes a noise while driving)
Grinds in 3rd.
Needs an alignment badly.
Exhaust leak.

Not that bad for someone who wants to invest in a beater.
