Icon5 Will this tint work for my dash?

Amazon.com: Red Colored Window Film - 24" wide x 1yd: Sold in one continuous roll, by the yard.: Kitchen & Dining

I tried a cellophane like red tint, but it only changed my dash lights from green to a light purple/light gray. I want to make the lights red, but I don't know if it will in fact change it to red like the DIY tutorial on this site was able to do.

That's hard to call man..With the green dash we have I would say it's gonna come through more orange, but I'm just going off what used to happen when I finger painted and stuff.

Here's the tutorial, but going over it I now realize he may have just replaced the blue plastic all together. I don't know if I want to do that. Seems kinda risky if you don't get it right.

Re: Will this tint work for my dash?

You could always just cut a small piece of clear plexiglass the same size as that blue cover, that might work alright.

Re: Will this tint work for my dash?

The bulbs themselves are green, plus there is a little blue piece of plastic back there that creates the colbalt color of the gas/temp gauge and the clock. It looks green to you now, but take out the little piece of blue plastic and it's really green. Therefore, you have to base the color you want off of the combination of the green and another color. For example, purple cellophane plus the green bulb color will create blue, which is what I had for a while.

There's no color for me to make a red though. Shouldn't green and purple have made a muddy color?

Re: Will this tint work for my dash?

No, it turned blue with no muddiness. If you buy a deep enough red acetate it'll shine through red.

Re: Will this tint work for my dash?

This tint I linked to is 1.5mm thin/thick so I wonder if it will work.....I think the guy took out the blue plastic rectangle and put in a red one all together, which is why it became red. Am I right? That piece is soldered onto the gauge though. What did you do djp?

I just ordered some tail light tint wrap that I can lay on the glass. It's a much richer looking red then what I bought before so hopefully it works. It only cost me $5 so eh, if it doesn't no big deal.
