Transmission Shifter

My shifter feels a little more loose than normal and I'm not sure how can I fix it. Over time the shifter became more loose and its getting really annoying. I was wondering if anyone had the same problem as me and if anyone fixed it. I was thinking that by putting in a short shift adapter it will feel more firm and tight. Let me know if I'm wrong.
