How do I know what ECU I have?

I am curous as to what ECU I have in my lude. The engine is a swapped JDM H22. I'm pretty sure it redlines at 7700. The previous owner said the Japanese ECU cuts out the engine at 115 mph. I've made it to 115, but never higher to verify if that's true or not. Does it say on the ECU? Its the little box in the upper right of the engine bay right?

Re: How do I know what ECU I have?

Well I can definitely rev beyond 6500, and I don't think it has been tuned or anything.

Re: How do I know what ECU I have?

I'm 95% sure you have a P13 unless you bought the car with the swap and someone decided to switch out ECU's or didnt have the funds or was unable to locate a P13.

I'm pretty sure the only other 2 working ECU's that your car could use is P28 or P72. Dont quote me on that tho.

And your redline is 7600 and your rev cut is at 7800.

Re: How do I know what ECU I have?

yeah more than likely its a p13. But if it was tuned or anything it probably has a p28 or p72. But im 90 percent sure its a p13. If it was a p14 vtec wouldn't engage and it would run like crap.

it wouldn't run like crap....I drove on a p14 with my h22a for almost 6months and it drives normal....you just know that 30hp is missing around 5200 rpm.

If you can rev up to and a little past 7k and it hasn't blown up yet, its a p13.
What RPM does VTEC engage?

Re: How do I know what ECU I have?

It wouldnt exactly run like crap, it would give some pinging be cause of the higher compression.

Re: How do I know what ECU I have?

pinging would be detonation. Well i haven't pulled the head on this motor yet, but i have 220+ compression readings last time i did a compression test, with over 100k miles....
You obviously don't race with the p14 on an h22 because you gonna lose anyways lol...

The ECU in on the floor on the passengers side, under a metal kick panel. Take the door sill plastic off, then take the lower kick panel off, then peel the carpet back, then undo the 10mm bolts that hold the plate in place. The ECU should be bolted down with 4 10mm bolts,

Re: How do I know what ECU I have?

VTEC engages around 5000 for me. So I have a P13? If i want to get a tune down the road, can I keep my current ecu? Or should I look into getting a p28 or p72 like mentioned.

Re: How do I know what ECU I have?

best results depend on tuner and the program they use, and how much money you have.

P28 is ready for VTEC
p06 can he made into a p28,
p72 ready for VTEC, IAB control, and can monitor knock sensor which will retard timing if any excessive knock occurs.
