Taking off my header cover. (header heat shield)

So I got the two bolts on the right and left sides off...after an hour of spraying WD-40 on them, is there another one I'm missing?

Re: Taking off my header cover. (header heat shield)

Nevermind about that one, I got the shield off. Now I need to know if there's something I can do to clean all the nasty ass rust off the header, or should I just put the shield back on?

I need advice very soon, I have to drive it in about 4 hours and I don't want to screw the engine up.

Re: Taking off my header cover. (header heat shield)

it wont hurt your engine in any way its just exposing the header to the engine bay. just like any other aftermarket header. as for the rust thing i personally think you should just put it back on. it makes it look a lot cleaner in the engine bay. but if you want it off then do so. it would be pretty hard to get all the rust off (i would imagine) especially when its still mounted to the engine.

Re: Taking off my header cover. (header heat shield)

you would have to take it off and wire brush and polish it then hit it with header paint.

Lol don't have any of that.

Should I just put the shield back on? lol

I'd post a pic of that nasty thing but I can't find a website that isn't stupid.

Re: Taking off my header cover. (header heat shield)

I'd say put it back on. I was taking mine off to inspect the manifold and just clean it up real nice and broke 2 of the bolts off so mine is shroudless and ugly :(

Re: Taking off my header cover. (header heat shield)

looks normal... Stock cast exhaust manifold look like that. Even if u cleaned it up, but didn't paint it, it'd look like that in less than a year, either accept it or cover it man or replace it. That's just how it goes

I'm planning on getting a new one, I'm just tight on money right now and I'm wondering if leaving the shield off would hurt anything, cause it was a bitch to get off.

Put it back on. That cast looks so bad!! I thought the H23 came like the 22, with the steel one?? Hmm..

Put the cover back on. You'll only rainse engine bay temps ad ruin everything else underneath in due time.

Nope.
H23 is cast and the design is different. That's why you see gains on an H23 with a DC header and not an H22.
