4ws light

My question is how do I replace the 4ws light? I believe the lights suppose to come on when you start the car. It has never worked since I got the car. Now my 4ws has decided to not work and I can't pull the fault code. Anyone know how to fix the light or how I can get the fault code without the light?

Re: 4ws light

1. To replace the 4ws light. You'll have to remove the speedometer unit. Take the screws out underneath the top of the dashboard plastic cover. Then there should be four screws to take the unit out. The lightbulbs are snapped in the back of that unit. I think there is also a plastic one screw bracket you got to take out (should be to the right of the speedometer). Also, look at the FSM link, so you can get the exact directions. It's been awhile since I took my dash apart.

2. Take a paper clip and jump the 2p service connector located behind the console (you should be able to just reach behind there and pull it out). Then turn the key to the on position, but don't start the car. The light should flash. Long flashes are the first digit. Short flashes are the secong digit of a "XX" number code.

Then download the FSM for the 92-96 prelude so you can troubleshoot the code you get: http://hondatech.info/downloads/Auto...e/Prelude%204/

Hope this helps.

Awesome thanks. You wouldn't happen to know what size bulb/type would you?

Umm...hang on one sec and I'll find out

Edit:

Edit: I'm going to say number #1 because #5 has the green cap, and I believe it's just a straight light bulb.

I edited that post again, I think it's #1 bulb. You can also call you local honda dealership parts dep't. They should be able to tell you exactly.

Re: 4ws light

Ok just pulled out the speedometer thing and was hoping for a burnt out bulb and not the wiring that was bad or something. Turns out bulb wasn't even there. Took out the high beam light and put it in and went to grab my code and got a 20. Something about steering sensor. Now atleast I kinda know what's wrong.

Re: 4ws light

Could be the sensor has gone bad. If sean1121 comes around here, he'll know alot more about this stuff than I do...even though I have 4ws myself.

Re: 4ws light

I think I fixed it. Fiddled with that connector in the column, reset the 4ws a few times and it seemed to work. It use to just go out after a few minutes of driving around and not work until I reset it. I drove for a while and it hasn't failed yet. Can noticeably tell the difference between non 4ws and 4ws.

While I was doing all of that I remembered that I took my car to get the ignition switch fixed, I think that's when my 4ws stopped working. Either way it works now and hopefully doesn't fail again.

Awesome, I'm glad you got it fixed. I've been having trouble with mine too, but I'm pretty sure I just need to re-solder some of my connections.

Re: 4ws light

Can't tell a difference? Are you're rear wheels turning while stopped? I can totally tell when mines acting up. Good to see you got it fixed.
