question about valve falling into cylinder

ok i figuring its junk but wanted to see if anyone ever ran into this, i had a head gasket done on my h23 and guess the rocker wasnt on right, looks like the valve slid down into the cylinder, my question is with this motor, would this just crush the valve? or would it damage the piston or bottom of the head? im figureing the motors junk but wanted to see what yous think, i just got this car and i know nothing about it but i do have an extra engine with a spun bearing so parts wise i have them, any ideas, i dont feel ike tearing it all apart if im gonna get no where with it and it needs an motor anyway

Re: question about valve falling into cylinder

we do indeed have interference motors, meaning the valves will indeed hit the pistons if the timing belt slips/breaks, or anything else bad happens in the head. this was how my 2nd H23 died.
the valve is most likely bent and garbage, and the piston MIGHT be salvagable. the only way to truly tell is to pull the head and inspect the true extent of the damage.

Re: question about valve falling into cylinder

yea i know about them being interference engines, but this valve is gone, like it slid down inside the motor, you cant see it, from what i can tell when the head was done one of the little rocker arms wasnt on the valve it was on the retainer and guess worked the clips out til the valve slid down, kinda thought someone may of had this happen being that the motor seems like its an easy mistake to make, but i have valves and an extra head but with a full valve in there im worried about the piston being dented or the bottom of the head being to damaged, if its fix able i will pull it apart and fix it myself, if the pistons junk i dont wanta waste my time

Re: question about valve falling into cylinder

if the ENTIRE valve is in there, then the piston is most likely fubar'ed, as well as the combustion chamber of the head. again, the only way to tell for sure is to take the head off; not too hard of a job if you know what your doing.
