Braided spark plug wires? WTF?

On 2 entirely seperate occasions with out mention of anything I have been told the same thing twice.

very recently I installed some new spark plug wires and when talking to a friend of a friend he told me to that I should braid the wires together, I asked what the hell it was and he said you intertwine the entire wire set ( spark plug wires 1,2,3, and 4) and that it will get better performance. Well he had drank a few beers and was a little buzzed so I took the guy to be simply a complete retard and ignored him and everything he said that night. :panda:

well yesterday I went to a party some people I know and another guy tells me that I should also braid the wires.

Well now its fair to say I am some what confused and don't know if these guys are right. so as a result I am asking.

please if anyone has any info help me out here, I think I just have a tendency to be around people that have no idea what the hell they are talking about.

I googled it and the only thing I could find was info on chrome or steel braid wires. lol

Re: Braided spark plug wires? WTF?

hey man, I remember my first grade school teacher telling me pluto was a planet, but now...
seriously that sounds like B.S. to me. Spark plug wires are heavily insulated now that I don't see how braiding them could yield any possible proformance gains. Maybe back in the day when the coating/shielding wasn't so good, but not today.
just my .02.

Re: Braided spark plug wires? WTF?

1- You can actually cause damage to the core/Insulation by twisting and contorting the wires into a form that would be considered "braiding."

2- All electrical wiring gives off RFI-(Radio Frequency Interference-- EMF ( Electro Magnetic Field, Electromagnetic Frequency, Electromotive Force ) Your Spark Plug Wires Especially! There are many disputable terms for what EMF is, but it all generally means the same thing. For one, it is a single conductor wire..ie: there is no negative ground sheild and positive core...
Coiling Any Wire, and the number of coils, will do ONE THING and one thing only... it will act like a Step Down Transformer and create MORE resistance. While the "geometry" of the coil/wires, ie: NOT being wound around an iron core, is dissimiliar in design, you are still creating a non servicing "field" of electrical energy. In other words.. it's Bulls*&$# and don't do it...

Don't you think that if it was really advantageous, Hot-rodders and racers around the world would have been doing it for Years?

Re: Braided spark plug wires? WTF?

Thanks for the replies, I was just puzzled by the fact that 2 people told me the same thing on different occasions with out mention of the other occasion. I should have stuck with what I thought originally:

anyway thanks for clarification.

ps those where not my friends, one was a friend of a friend, and the other just a guy at a party.

There's a lot of mis-information out there if you know who to listen to.:popworm:

Just because I've been told by three people this week that the McLaren F1 is still the fastest road going car ever made doesn't make it fact.

I think they just like to hear themselves talk.
Doing that is about as safe as playing on the freeway in 5 o'clock traffic it may seem cool but no one is going to benifit from it.
