Icon7 Idle

When my car is stoped at a stop light the idle goes up and down up and down up and down. only when I stop though. it doesn't do it when I start it right up. only after I've driven it Any guesses

Re: Idle

Probably either your FITV or Your IACV which can also be called EACV. If, while your prelude is warmed up with the throttle body exposed, you cover up the small hole toward the left bottom inside the throttle body, it goes away then the problem is your FITV check that first then get back to us for an update.

No big deal just have a second O2 bung welded in and put the old one back in.

Re: Idle

Will do man. I took off the FITV and the valve was fine. I also unplugged the IACV and it went away immediately. The "ghetto tape fix" also worked for me too (putting duct tape in between the IACV and the engine.) But it always felt like the engine was about to die every time I let off. So from all that I'm pretty sure a new one will fix everything. I bought a new one from Majestic Honda. It was half the price a local dealer wanted for one here in Vegas. *crosses fingers

Re: Idle

For the IACV, you need to spray the filter like a mo-fo, same with the IACV itself. Let it sit for a few minutes, drain it, then spray it like a mo-fo again. I went through 2 cans of carb cleaner doing this and it fixed my bouncy idle.

Well I installed my brand new IACV and it did absolutely nothing. *depressed*

I even replaced my throttle body gasket that I noticed a tear in it. I also took off the FITV and sprayed it with carb cleaner again. Nothing helped a bit. What the hell is wrong?

Re: Idle

I FIXED IT!

I wasted $250 on a new IACV that I didn't need but i fixed it! Turned out to be the stupid screw above the throttle body that adjusts the RPM. Maybe it was on a different setting for the climate in Japan, since it's a JDM engine...I donno. But I tightened it all the way, started the car, and it idled perfectly to 750 at normal operating temperature. Took it for a test spin and no more idle surges! It used to idle at around 1100. The ECU must have cut the fuel every 2 seconds in attempt to adjust for the high rmp. It's supposed to be at 750 +-50

Most of the threads I've searched for said to leave the screw for last so I didn't even touch it. I would highly recommend doing it FIRST! Especially if you a jdm engine swapped in your car.

Re: Idle

since this is in the 4th Gen tech area.. we can safely assume your car is at LEAST 15 years old.... LOL!

People replace their timing belts, alternator belts, radiator hoses, etc, but SOOOO Many often forget that the vacuum lines on our cars are made out of the same material and DO wear out and lose their ability to remain leak free... Hard lesson learned, I had 3 different mechanics work on my car trying to fix the rev issue. Everything was just a temporary fix, IACV clean out, idle adjust, etc...

Not Only did I find two bad vacuum lines that were cracked and leaking around the "nipple" they were attached to.. I also found One on the back of my throttle body that was NEVER hooked up.

Go buy 10 feet of vacuum hose and replace ALLLLLLLL of the lines under the hood, regardless if you think they look good or not.

Oh ya, then search! This has been discussed NUMEROUS Times on this forum, HENCE where I got the idea to fix my idle issue all by my wee little self. --LOL! :D

Re: Idle

Yea when I first put the exaust on it ran fine for six months with out a problem. I stop driving for 2 1/2 months and 2 weeks after I start driving it again it starts to do it it was a gradual increase now its anoying as hell and I wanna beat the thing with a very big hammer. so O2 sensors have nothing to do with idle only fuel economy and how much gas it dumps into the car. Which doesn't matter any ways cause I get the same amount of gas milage with an exaust with out an exaust with an O2 sensor or with out.

Re: Idle

^have you cleaned out your IAC valve or not? any updates on your situation?

and NO, o2 sensor(s) are very, very important. I'll bet you that if you replace both of your o2 sensors (specifically the main one before the catalytic converter) you'll get better gas mileage and/or your idle problem will go away.

edit: are you not throwing any Check Engine Light Codes??
