Hard Cold Starts

95' SI

I tuned it myself, new battery, engine turns great but isn't receiving fuel. I have premium fuel in it and a bottle of heet. I'm guessing fuel pump and/or fuel pump relay and/or fuel pump regulator. What I'm asking, is what usually goes wrong with these cars or what's most likely the culprit? I haven't gone outside to really mess with it yet because it's cold and my hours are sucky sucky.

58,000 miles.
Brenna

Oh yeah, single digit temperatures too. The car takes awhile to turn over even if it's 40 degrees. Turns over on the second revolution when it's warm outside, everytime.

Re: Hard Cold Starts

Are you saying it just turns over slowly? That could be your battery, batteries perform much worse in cold temps. It's been 16 degrees here the past few days and I have noticed how much harder all my cars start.

Re: Hard Cold Starts

Do you let the pump prim first or do you just turn the car on right away.

Re: Hard Cold Starts

Let me make sure we're on the same page when you mean, prime. Do you mean, turn the ignition to the on position and wait a few seconds, then give it a crank? If so, I do that. Also, even though I know it's inappropriate, I've had to pump the gas to get it to go too. I'm thinking it's fuel sending related, it has to be. That or a funky sensor thing.

but once you get it running there are no problems? no rough idle, stalling, misfires, or just general hesitation?

Yep that what i meant. My next question would have been what Mdtdnb asked,If that all is fine then I wold look more at the fuel filter. when was the last time it was changed?

Re: Hard Cold Starts

replace the front fuel filter first, if that does not work, get crackin on those rear seats, head over to Car Quest and buy yourself a new fuelpump and rear sock filter, i did this the other weekend took about 2 hours, not very hard at all and honda will want 800+ to do it for you. unless you have clevage, then you may be able to get it down to 775 or something. I tried the ball clevage and they only dropped the price 5 dollas, its hard times these days, people are starving for scraps. lmao

Re: Hard Cold Starts

A common problem is the main relay but I don't think it is in your position. If you are using 10w30, switch to 5w30 and what battery are you running? Make sure it has a good rating of CCA (Cold Cranking Amps)

Re: Hard Cold Starts

Doesn't really sound like a fuel pump. Fuel pumps are usually either good or bad, no in-between. But that is just usually, weird sh1t happens all the time lol. How do you know it isn't getting any fuel? Have you stuck a gauge on the test port on the fuel rail and got a reading? I would start there.

Re: Hard Cold Starts

Main Relay? Not sure.

I know the colder it is, the more revolutions it takes to turn over. My battery was new. It cranks just as fast as it does when it's warm outside.
