messing with my valves (help)

I was thinking about massing with my valves to get some more performance out of my H23A1. I have heard that people can do this with Hondas and get some pretty good results.

Does anyone have any input on this subject. Is it worth it? Will it damage my motor? How bad can I f$#% it up? And so on...

Any input is helpfull. Thanks.

Re: messing with my valves (help)

just use the service manual and set it to factory specs. You will have to get a feeler gauge but It is relatively easy to do.

As far as extra performance, I've heard of people adjusting it outside factory specs so that it gives more HPs but i dont know the exact specs and i heard it is actually bad for the head. I'm no pro at it but that is what i read on another thread a while back.

Re: messing with my valves (help)

I think it would be a trial and error kinda thing unless you knew what you wear doing. I would just stay with the factory specs not worth messing something up.

I have never heard of messing with the valves giving you any extra hp, only after a new cam is installed. let me know if you need the specs i have the service manual sitting on my desk next to me. :)

from redlining at 900000000 rpms, thats aslo what causes ticking noises at idle, i had my valves adjusted over the summer, made the car sound smoother and quieter, no the engine sounds like a bag full of ticking clocks, i gotta watch going over 900000000 rpms.

They have an auto-adjust feature that keeps them regulated for the most part but Honda recommends a manual inspection and adjustment every 30,000 miles. They get out of whack just from everyday wear and tear.

Re: messing with my valves (help)

dont do anything to them unless you are putting them to factory specs...

if you are asking us if its a good idea then (not to sound like an ass) but you dont have a clue what you are doing and could **** up you motor.

there is no trial and error about it. ONLY put them to factory specs

Auto Adjust? :noidea: Huh?

Hondas use a very simple manual adjustment system :sad6:...

Now, as far as adjusting them to gain performance. Set them to the tight side of factory specs. Much beyond that and you end up with continual contact of the cams and rocker assembly. It ends up in serious damage over a relatively small time period depending on how far they are out. You also will not make anymore power due to parasitic losses and have serious valve chatter noise.

Very, so long as they're not stuck in place from not being adjusted in 100k. Just set them to the tightest part of the factory spec and you'll be good

Sounds like you have bouncy idle.

Adjusting valves will not solve that problem.

Re: messing with my valves (help)

If it's not your FITV, it's your IACV most likely. And factory specs and everything else you need to know can be found in a Helms. I highly suggest you get yourself one if you plan on working on your car.

Edit - Actually dude, if you wanna wait for weather to get a little bit better, we can meet up and adjust the valves on both our cars. I have a helms with the factory specs and all that ish, and neither of us are retarded so we can probably figure it out lol.

just to clarify, the Helms Inc Service Manual, not the crappy Haynes and Chilton manuals from autozone.

chilton isnt that bad. the specs are correct. the repair procedure is slightly vague but in a time of need it does come in handy
