CV Axels.......

You know, I see more threads about CV Axels on here then much of anything else it seems. I even looked through the search option. I have a new problem for ya:

My CV Axel, left side, leaking.....well....no clicking yet. :-) However, my ABS Light keeps coming on and when it's not on, my brake pedal literally pulsates and not like how an ABS system is designed to pulsate either. My car, actually makes some kind of.....and I don't know how else to explain this.....but some kind of computer processing sound from the front end. It's the weirdest thing I've ever experienced with a car. Now my guess is that the grease from the CV Axel is tripping something with the ABS sensor causing the controller to go bezerk, but I don't know. I do know I'm going to get some brake cleaner on my way home and old girl is getting underneath the car and spraying the tar out of it. Maybe cleaning it can buy me some more time before I have to replace the Joint and could get the freaky abs thing lined out.

What do you guys think?

Re: CV Axels.......

What you should do first is pull out the ABS fuse so you don't have the brake problem. The ABS ring on the axle probably got messed up because of the leak. Once you replace the axle, it should be fine.

When you pull the ABS fuse, the ABS light will turn on but don't worry about it because you already know what the problem is.

Re: CV Axels.......

Don't bother with a CV boot repair kit, just get new axles... its almost cheaper and its a lot less work than repairing a CV boot

Re: CV Axels.......

Might want to check your wheel sensor on that wheel too, I know that can royally fugg some ish up.

As for your ABS fuse, it is in the under-dash fusebox. Looking at the box from the front of the car, it is in the top row, second from the right.

Re: CV Axels.......

Thanks guys :-)

I found the fuse and felt like an idiot when I looked at the box which told me which one to pull. I took it and voinked it right out! Car stops great now :-) I've never been a fan of ABS anyway, no matter how much research they throw at me, I still trust my foot more.

Anyway, I'm going to run my car until the CV Axel itself gets infected with the Clap. Thank you everyone for your imput.

Brenna :-)

Good find. But I would avoid the whole "split" boot thing lol, doesn't look good.

Re: CV Axels.......

^ they sell axles, of course they wouldnt want you to boot it and have your axle last longer...not all split boots are glue-together either. That article makes them look pretty ****ty. If you catch it early enough, it will be fine to split boot. Now, since the weather is constantly ****ty, replace the axle.

+1 on what hojem said, with ****ty whether like this, just replace it. You don't want to get stranded on the highway in this **** and cause more problems for yourself and everyone else.

That isnt the best idea, think about were the grease can go...........ok if you haven't thought about it yet I'll tell you. Your brake rotors and pads, making you stop like **** and maybe even wrecking.

I'm sure you know a guy or two that will replace that axle for cheap or a some kind of favor(j/k). So in the end you'll be spending more money if you let the axle go bad (axle, brakes pads, rotors or turning rotors, and all of the labor to do all of that)

Replacing them won't be that expensive. I think Advance has them for like ~$90 apiece.

that price drops to 60 once you bring in your old axle and get the core money

Yeah I forgot about that. The only things I go to advance for are brake calipers, since you get them for so cheap after the core deposit. Hopefully I never need new axles, but you never know.
