clutch problem? need help plz

i have a 94 prelude si, this car was an auto swap to manual when i bought it but i have some problems with it the car would some time rev and not pick up speed after around 2000rpm- 3000rpm and the clutch acts weird,it starts to pump up higher and higher to the point i just need to tap it to switch gears. but when i drive it in 5th gear it will sometimes fix the problem this only happens when i leave the car idle for a while other than that it drives fine. the dude sold me the car 2 months ago and he said he put in a new clutch 3 months ago. can it be a clutch or slave master cylinder problem?

Re: clutch problem? need help plz

I'm having a hard time understanding what you wrote... when you say the car won't pick up after 2/3k rpm, it sounds like a slipping clutch, but then your next sentence makes it sound like a (whats the opposite of a slipping clutch?-a working one?)...

I'll tell you what I do think though. From what your saying about the "pumping-up" of the clutch making it better, it sounds like a master cylinder problem. If the clutch is 3 months old, i doubt the clutch itself is going bad.

I had a similar problem with my master cylinder for my brakes, needed to pump em up and it would fix the problem for a little bit and sometimes it would run well if the car warmed up... but thats brakes, not clutch... (I have a 94 lude too)

Final thought: Best guess is your master cylinder is taking a crap on you.
Good luck!

Re: clutch problem? need help plz

thx for the reply umm i dont pump the clutch but it just keeps getting higher by itself and when it pumps high to a point, the car will rev up wen i step on the gas but not pick up speeed like its on neutral. this only happens when i leave the car idle for too long tho

Master or slave cylinder would be my guess.

Re: clutch problem? need help plz

now this happens at all time and its getting really annoying especially first gear its easily stall since the clutch is so far out and revs pass 2000rpm anybody knows what the prob is? plz help. i also have an idle prob ,it will rev by itself 1000rpm - 2500rpm nonstop even if the engine is warmed up. can this problem relate?

Re: clutch problem? need help plz

adjust your master cylinder/clutch pedal: http://preludezone.com/showpost.php?...9&postcount=11

Then, clean out your IAC valve when you get a chance: http://preludezone.com/showpost.php?...6&postcount=15

See if that helps, then report back to us...

Re: clutch problem? need help plz

has anybody ever thought about the possibility of the guy before you not breaking in the clutch? if the proper break in period isnt met, the clutch will go out a whole hell of a lot faster than you think. i would pressure test the master cylinder and slave cylinder to see if pressure is being lost somewhere. do not just jump in and throw parts at the situation. if you arent losing pressure than chances are your clutch is gone. replace the clutch and MIND THE BREAK IN PERIOD.

Re: clutch problem? need help plz

you cant just except the car to run fine if your redline a new clutch with out breaking it in, theres always like 600 mile break in point for all new clutchs, so if you do get a new clutch keep idle under 3000 rpms more like just driving the car like normal.

Re: clutch problem? need help plz

Breaking in a clutch = driving like an old lady for ~500 miles. No launching, no dumping, none of that ****.
