Icon9 NEED HELP!!! axel popped out!!!

okay so i was changing my control arm bushings and when i go to to put the control arms back in the one on the drivers side wont fit right, then i notice that the axle (drivers side) is popped out, a buddy of mine told me to just pop it back in but i cant seem to do it. i tried turning the tire then pushing the wheel in to get that axle in but it wont work... any ideas of what i can do? another one of my buddys said that i might need a new one. can ANYONE help me out? im in a really big bind right now can anyone tell me how to pop it back in or replace an axle? the axle boot is streached out, thats how i know that its popped out, and when i turn the tire it makes a popping noise.

Re: NEED HELP!!! axel popped out!!!

first i wanna start by saying that you have a 5TH GEN.

now to answer your question....

did the boot break?

if not all you have to do is line up the grooves in the end up the axle. you should grease it up and should slip right back in.

post up a pic or two and we can be more helpful to you.

good luck

Re: NEED HELP!!! axel popped out!!!

Well, I think you are talking about the end of the axle half shaft that fits into the wheel hub? I guess you call it basically the rotor. You said you were doing control arm work so thats close to where you are working. That thing slides back in at kind of an akward angle almost seems like it won't slide back in. But it will, once you get that in it needs to line up on the spline (little knoches on the axle and the end is threaded to put the axle nut back on. Might even be a cotter pin you need to place back in once you tighten the axle nut to the correct torque.

Now unless you are talking about that the axle came out from the other end thats simple its just a spline that needs to line up and slide back in you have to make sure you line the groves up otherwise it will not slide back on. That is actually a joint at that joint you have sort of another straight axle piece that is bolted to the back side of your motor at the bottom and that axle goes into the actual transmission. Where did you axle side out from the joint? The transmission? Or the wheel hub (rotor)?

Like what was mentioned before post up pics of it and we will help you get fixed right up.

Also you mentioned you are hearing popping noises turning. Have you got the axle back in and now your hearing popping sounds? Because if so then you probably have a bad CV joint that part underneath the rubber boot.
