My first prelude problem! help

lately my car just idles very, very badly when the car is at normal operating temparature according to the heat gauge.

when the car is cold, it idles fine, when the gauge is in the middle of hot and cold the car struggles to idle.

Also, the car puffs white smoke when this happens and radiator hoses are pressurised and hard.

coolent levels seem fine, twin fans still automatically comes on(dont know how often) but the other day the car was physically very hot but the fans did not come on.(again, heat gauge indicates that the car is not overheating)

please, any help appreciated.

I know how you feel, my car idles so annoyingly right now, it revs from 500-3000 RPM up and down whenever i have the clutch engaged or am in neutral. Especially annoying at red lights when everyone stares thinking I am trying to be an asshole and street race everyone D:

what year is the car, 92-95 or 96???
How many miles are on it???
Have you done anything maintanence wise???
Whats the oil looking like???
Do your fans stay on after you turn off the car???
When was the last time you changed the fuel filter/pump?? mine just died and i had to replace it..

Lets start off from there and then proceed forward.

Well, the car is a 1995 model,
Ive not done any Maintenance as yet,
I checked the oil color and theres no water in the oil,
The fans do not stay on after turning the car off, in fact , I dont think its going on at the right times anymore.
I was wondering if connecting the fans to run constant with the ignition is a good idea?

OK!

Found the problem,

Cooling fan does not come on. I ran the motor for 20 minutes and it did not come on. When i power on the AC, the fan on my driver-side comes on.

I checked the cooling fan fuse, cooling fan relay- all fine. What else can i check?

Re: My first prelude problem! help

^ I had the same problem when i got my prelube, find a friend or someone who is a mechanic, and take it to their shop, have them plug into the LUBE, and turn on the fan, for some reason mine had been turned off, if it is turned on then you may have a burned out motor, or a bad connection, or a fuse, do you own a shop manual??

Re: My first prelude problem! help

it may not be the same on your car, but on my 96 which is obd2, this is why i say it may not be the same, my fans will come on about a minute after shutting the engine down, and they will stay on for about 10 to 15 minutes to help cool the engine down when i leave the car. The car didnt originally do it until my friend hooked it up to his snap on obd 2 reader, it was turned off so he turned it on, you should buy a shop friend or something.

Re: My first prelude problem! help

I'm assuming by fan switch he means t-stat? That's what I would guess anyways.

Re: My first prelude problem! help

I would definitely say try replacing the thermostat with a new one first.
