H22a Help

If my crank and cam timing is off by a few millimeters, would that make a big difference?Because I could align the crank to TDC, and the dash marks on the cams is like a hair off.Car runs good, seems perfect, but wen vtec opens, its really loud, its not a rumbling vtec sound, but more high pitched,i was affraid it could be the engine pinging, but when the car is cold,it goes thru the revs, once it warms up vtec cracks but its just loud...any opinions thanks..and its an H22a motor.

Re: H22a Help

I have exhaust but no intake, just a screen covering the throttle body.I mean the car picks up and it seems to run good, but i remmebered wen i first did the swap, i couldnt even hear vtec as loud but it ripped, everything just went downhill wen my dizzy broke n my timing jumped. so i tried getting timing as perfect as i can..

Re: H22a Help

i agree with nick. the timing belt sounds like its off a tooth or two. when the crank is at TDC the cams should also be at TDC. no questions asked.

Good idear. VTEC + CAI + Exhaust = Loud as FUGG.

Re: H22a Help

Will having no intake system like cold air or short ram, will that rob power out of the motor??Because all I have is a screen covering the throttle body so no debris gets in...

Re: H22a Help

I'm not 100% positive but I think it might hurt intake flow velocity.

Re: H22a Help

There's a reason every car has an air filter. Your screen won't let debris in, but fine particles of dust will slip right through, eventually building up and gunking up your motor. You should at least put a filter onto your throttle body.

Re: H22a Help

The reason for a CAI is the air is colder at the front of the fender well...and hotter in the engine bay...SO this being said, A CAI runs out of the engine bay and therefore draws colder air...Colder the air the more compressed the air, so you can take in more air... More air carries more fuel...More air more fuel=more power That is my hypothesis on cold air intakes...

Re: H22a Help

It's true. You're definitely hurting performance rather than helping it that way...If you put a CAI in the right spot it will help you out a lot.

Re: H22a Help

Thanks for the inputs fellaz. So far i custom made my cold air intake, and it seems to be working, now my timing is off about half a tooth on the intake side, that maybe the reason the vtec is kicking in louder than it is and i also feel like the car dont have that much top end as welll, low end power i feel it,but once it goes vtec,it dont feel sluggish but i know its not pulling like its suppose too.

Re: H22a Help

Check your timing and fix it. That might help.
