F22A1 lightweght flywheel

Im interest to change my stock flywheel to another with 12 or maybe 8 lbs, in my 93 Lude, F22A1, stock engine

In my country I experience some problems, as difficult to buy parts to my Lude. So I have to choice the better to my case. Fidanza's flywheel is the first choice in this or others forums to H22 engine.

In my city, Rio de Janeiro, traffic jams is frequent. I dont have idea how lightweight flywheel is better to my case. As lightweight flywheels has less inertia, if I use the lighter flywheel, with 8 lbs, it will difficult me to use my car in slow speeds, changing frequently gears? In my case, 12 Lbs flywheel will be better?

Thank you for any help, and excuse me with my mistakes in English.

Re: F22A1 lightweght flywheel

ive heard mixed reactions on the 8-12lb comparison, basically what you are getting out of the mod is more wheel horsepower, since the weight has been lightened on the flywheel it is in turn less mass for the engine to turn, its kinda like eliminating the middle man in power to the wheels, or at least making him go on a diet.

From what i have read on this site its not so much of a leg breaker in traffic, its just less forgiving, but if you wanna chirp 3rd, go for it. And if you are going to replacec the flywheel you should also look into getting a new clutch. organics are nice, but nothing over a stage one will be needed. I think im going to do this mod over christmas break. LESS THAN ONE MONTH AWAY!!!!

come on mods, smart people, tear my post a new asshole. do it!!!

Re: F22A1 lightweght flywheel

Thank you for the answer. I fix my entire engine four months ago, even the clutch is new. Now The car is painting again.

If I change the flywheel to a lighter one, do you think its necessary to change this clutch too?

Re: F22A1 lightweght flywheel

yeah i mean you will have a stronger clutch, and if you are doing it yourself, while the flywheel is out do the clutch. and exedy stage 1's are not that expensive for the change you will recieve.

Re: F22A1 lightweght flywheel

I heard about this clutch. Maybe Ill ask the whole package, clutch and flywheel.

About the flywheel again, do you think that the 8 Lbs can difficult me on the stop and go of the city? Or it won't be noticiable the difference?

So, the Excedy clutch is a good one, and what do you know about, this flywheel brands?:
Fidanza (8 Lbs), XTD PROLITE (10 Lbs), EzClutch - CL LITE Racing (10 Lbs), F1 Racing (12 Lbs), CL EXEDY Racing (18 Lbs).

Thank you!

Re: F22A1 lightweght flywheel

i have exedy stage 1 + fidanza 8lb FW. the clutch feels almost OEM'ish, but the flywheel absolutely sucks in bumper to bumper traffic cuz i gotta rev to 3K just to start moving. if you really do have that much traffic in your city i'd recommend something even a bit heavier than 12lb, if they even make one tho.

clutchmasters and centerforce are the other big names/good quality when it comes to clutches for our cars.

and you might as well change the clutch while you're in there anyway, instead of doing the job twice.

Re: F22A1 lightweght flywheel

This is my preocupation FW too light (8-12 Lbs.) can difficult the use in heavy traffic.

Maybe if I use one with14-16 Lbs. (preparing the OEM FW) will be more comfortable to my needs.

Re: F22A1 lightweght flywheel

the stock flywheel is around 22-25 pounds, so if you know of any machine shops, they can put it on a lathe and turn it down, but i'm not sure exactly how light they can make it without sacrificing its integrity.

Re: F22A1 lightweght flywheel

You are right about it, if I retire too much the FW integrity can be committed. Even my engine isnt strong, with less than 150Hp, I would like to keep it confiable.

I saw on eBay the CL Exedy racing FW, with 18 Lbs, just 5-7 Lbs. less than OEM's FW.
