Icon2 Auto to 5 speed swap - Which guide did you use?

I know there are plenty of posts about this issue I just want to do it right. Who has done the auto - 5 speed swap can point me to the guide that they used, I see plenty of info when I search but it seems there are different ways. I already have the tranny, flywheel, intermediate shaft, and starter. I plan on using my auto ECU and re-soldering the resistor. I am also wondering if I need different bolts for my flywheel or will the one from the flex-plate work? Can I reuse the bolts that bolt the tranny to the engine? I have an h22a with auto can I reuse my axles? Tips and pointers are appreciated.

Thanks :beerchug:

You havent been here longer enough to start being a smartass

I'm almost positive that the same bolts from the auto trans can be used to bolt the manual trans up. I'm going to take an educated guess, and say no, the bolts from the flex plate will not fit the clutch flywheel assembly.

Free bump, because your going to need the help. Anyone who has done this swap give some guy some help here.

the bolts are different... the bolts that bolt the flexplate to the crank are shorter than 5speed ones...i might have the 5 speed bolts laying around if you need them LMK

Re: Auto to 5 speed swap - Which guide did you use?

Study the service manual .pdf file. It'll be the greatest help.
You can reuse the passenger side axle, you'll have to buy a driver side axle because the auto's are long as hell and the manual one connect to an intermediate shaft which is on the block.

I did this swap. It was fairly straightforward. I read all the write ups I could. The hardest part for me was putting the hard clutch lines against the firewall.
The wiring part was very simple. Don't do that nonsense with the relays.

Re: Auto to 5 speed swap - Which guide did you use?

I'm about to finish this swap. Everyone says it's hard but everything has been relatively easy and straightforward for me...the hardest thing for me has been bleeding the lutch ironically (which I still have problems with) but other than that I had no knowledge about working with manual trannies and **** came out beautiful...i used this write-up as a guide because my manual transmission was attached to the engine already..
http://www.superhonda.com/forum/f146...8/#post1987099
and for the wiring all you have to do is wire the reverse lights and jump the brown ignition switch connector under your shifter assembly (two big wires; one black/red and one black/white). Forget all the stuff he says to do.
The one thing that was a bitch to do was hooking up the clutch master cylinder. there's a bolt that needs a nut but it seems impossible to get it on there and it was definitely a bitch trying to tighten it, you'll just need an extension, 12mm deep socket, a bright ass light, and ALOT of patience...
i might have some spare parts, i knwo i have a brand new clutch slave cylinder and also a clutch adapter and the line that runs to the clutch dampener, i also have the bracket and screws for the shift cables if you need any of that...

I don't know anyone who said it was hard. =)
I haven't had any experience doing anything on that level with my car and it very straightforward as well.

Re: Auto to 5 speed swap - Which guide did you use?

I appreciate all the help guys. I have been waiting for the auto to die for 5 years now, in the past few months it has developed a knock from within the tranny and yesterday I lost 1st and 3rd gear so I guess now is the time, lol. Sucks about having to get another axle dont know if I should buy a new or used one.

You guys had to swap out or re-solder the resistor in your ecu's right? Cause I heard somewhere about leaving it in park position or something.

okay ...ive done the swap its not as hard as everyone thinks...
1 yes you need different bolts for the flywheel to crank they are usually marked mt you can get those of a manual f22 h22 h23
from the pressure plate to flywheel im pretty sure the act kit comes w/ it or the fidanze kit comes w/ it...so if you get an aftermarket clutch and flywheel kit you should be able to them... if not once again... f22 h22 h23 pressure plate bolts will fit
2 you can reuse the bolts from the auto to engine
3 the axles i dont think you can use.... in a 5 gen you can but 4 gen i dont think you can.
anything else you need lemme know... i used the swap pages in preludeonline and honda-tech.

Re: Auto to 5 speed swap - Which guide did you use?

I found a 1994 with 5 speed and 220K miles for 1,000 just rear quarter damage, since I already have the tranny I wonder if this would even be worth considering for a parts car.

Yea thats what I was thinking, ive already got a DD but I am somewhat of a collector of cars, I can never have enough. I am going to wait and find a parts car later on, i'm sure all the parts that I still need aren't going to be that expensive cause ive already got the expensive part. I have a flywheel that is really rusty. Can they be re-surfaced?

Re: Auto to 5 speed swap - Which guide did you use?

I wonder if it would be alright to put on there all rusty. It should all wear off kinda like a brake rotor right?

I just ordered the shifter plate with cables and clips and all, looked like they would be the hardest thing to find on the forum with all the demand so I went to Ebay for that. Just missing 1 arm and 1 leg now. lol

That is a weird looking head on those flex plate bolts. Where do you get the funky socket?

its just a 12 point socket... very common. 17mm and 10 mm needed!

Re: Auto to 5 speed swap - Which guide did you use?

I got impatient and went with the fidanza 8lb and exedy oem clutch, I think I made a good choice.

Re: Auto to 5 speed swap - Which guide did you use?

So I have been waiting for my flywheel bolts, pressure plate bolts, two tranny bolts, and intermediate shaft bolts for over a week and Majestic still hasn't shipped. I finally called and they said they were waiting on a shipment to be in late this week. Just stupid, this is the only thing stopping me from finishing up the swap.

Well there were all the other bolts I needed also so I just picked them up all new cause like you said I will be waiting the same amount of time either way. Thanks for offering those to me tho.

I plan on using loctite on the flywheel bolts and pressure plate bolts, good or bad idea?
